Firstly, may I put my hand up now and say that last year I posted a comment about Jacobs being well below AFL standard and that he would more than likely be on the scrap heap by years end.

The big guy seems to have proven me wrong! He was more than handy the last few weeks against good ruck combinations. Was particularly impressed with his tap work and he looks in great shape.

Based on his pre season form, is he a chance to make his debut in 2010?

the taller they are, the longer they take to develop/make it. A good thing to remember when making judgements about young rucks.
I don't think Jacobs will make it past this year. Whilst he has looked reasonable in the ruck (and only reasonable) in the last couple of games, his game around the ground is poor and he doesn't get to enough contests. I wish him all the best but can't see him higher in the "pecking" order than Warnock, Hampson, Kruezer & Cloke.

I have not been able to devote my full attention to our last 2 games so I am not sure how many contests he is getting too but what has impressed me is not only his tap contesting but also the way he has then become involved in the clearance/ground level side of the bounces. :thumbsu:

He's already ahead of Hampson , going on the last couple of weeks .
As we all know bigger blokes take longer to develop , and he has a long way to go yet . ( Hammer ditto ) . But Jacobs has done well in the 2 NAB cup games .
Warnock has not done a thing since we have had him on the list , and looks to be very injury prone . Also did very little in the whole time he was at Fremantle . ( I do realize they are a dud club and he probably didn't get much help there ) . But I think it will be a couple of years before he does much for us .
So Jacobs may well be doing a lot of ruck work for us in 2009 .
Not an ideal situation , but there aren't many options .

Jacobs has a few years left in him I think. We would use him as a backup ruckman to wornock and kreuzer with cloke in the fwd line. He is really good at the tap work however i think he isnt that good around the ground, very slow. He is way ahead of hampson though.

And the reason why we didn't want to delist him after we had put 2 years of development into him. He'd have to be a big chance of being a nominated rookie even this year. I really think he could play senior footy in 2009.

I believe we will lose aa ruckman by years end.
I just don't believe it will be Jacobs, though.

If your referring to Hampson you are incorrect will keep him on the list til the GC comes in and use him for trade bait with what your referring to. Also if there is one player I may love as much as Gibbs it is Hampson so I bloody hope not....

Edit: did you mean aa as in All Australian or just a grammar error and meant to write a?

While watching the game on sunday, i was wondering if sauce would be able to play during the season? will he be a nominated rookie, and therefore get some games into him? When do we have to nominate these players by anyway?

Some players are worth keeping on a list because they wont cost you much and you need back-up. Jacobs could be one such player. A solid ruckman - particularly man on man and at boundary thro-ins (not a great leap but good with is hands) - as your 42nd player is worthwhile.

After all we already have a few question marks over our rucks:

* Warnock - injury
* Hampson - ability / understanding

And Kreuzer may be worthwhile elsewhere.

And we haven't seen him yet but jacobs has good hands for marking and a straight kick. he can fill a forward pocket if we want to try different line-ups.

I think he's a keeper for the long-term.

From what I've seen in the NAB cup I would say that sauce is probably a better ruckman than Kruezer and Hampson he's lifted our hitouts totals to levels not seen for years at carlton.Also I am very impressed with his workrate.If he can give our midfield regular first use of the ball and work hard to try an nuetralise opposition ruckman around groud then he could be very serviceable.

I think he means Cloke. I think he's right.

Whens the last time we've drawn even at the hitouts.... I'll have some dead horse with that...

Maybe I'm a bit old and the game has changed a lot but I'd just love to have a ruckman who would take a few big marks around the ground and kick a couple of goals as well as getting hitouts...I'm thinking Percy Jones, Mike Fitzpatrick here.....

I don't thiknk that expecting a ruckman to be able to actually play football makes you old.............although after the last few years I don't blame you.

He is well ahead of Hampson. Jacobs can ruck, Hampson is ordinary. Hampson's hands are ordinary, Jacobs are ok.

Hampson is capable of it if he improves his rucking and marking.

I can't wait to see him get to play on some average rucks for once! He's only had good ones so far!
