Difference is that the World Champs are held every year, the Olympics are held every 4 years.I don't think there are any "rules" when it comes to gold, I think Sanchez is the first rider to do this kind of thing. I think it's a bit wanky after 4 years to still be running the gold helmet, it's akin to wearing the rainbow more than one season...
Actually nothing stopping him wearing them next year if he wants to. The UCI have no policy about the gold trim and it is deemed part of his uniform rather than the rainbow trim for former world champions.Difference is that the World Champs are held every year, the Olympics are held every 4 years.
If he's still wearing them when someone else is reigning Olympic Champion.. then you can call him a Moo.
was going to use him in few stages time. Now I need to find anothr rediculusly good descender!!!
Vincenzo 'the Shark' Nibali.
It was never about what he is or isn't allowed to wear. He wore the gold stuff because he was the reigning Olympic champion and wanted the world to know it. It's a bit nobbish, but hey - the UCI World Champion gets to wear the rainbow jersey all year long, so what's the difference?Actually nothing stopping him wearing them next year if he wants to. Agree, but if banned people from looking like idiots it would give us a whole lot less to talk about.Presumably he won't be the reigning Olympic Champion again, after London. In that case, his justification for wearing the gold will have disappeared. To continue doing so wouldn't be illegal, he'd just look like an idiot.
