Hi Footy fans...

The talk of the football world this past fortnight or so has been crowd behaviour. Now we here in our little corner of said world have been largely unaffected by the spectre of over-bearing security guards aside from some minor spot-fires here and there which end up being treated as such. A dust up between a few Blues and Eagles fans here, some "noise" complaints against Bloods fans there, Bulldogs fans well, being Bulldogs fans... nudge-nudge, wink-wink. We should probably thank our lucky stars that we're considered not worth the trouble, because heaven forbid the ills that "plague" the AFL filter down to our level. Too much noise or banter? Cue widespread laughter among the SA footy-heads. But I digress, we're on the road to the finals.

Welcome to the Round 10 edition of the SANFL Wrap-Up.

The first of two Saturday afternoon games takes us to the Maughan Thiem Kia Oval in Woodville for the west city derby between the Eagles and the Bloods. This was the first of the return bout games for Season 2019, a chance for the Eagles to exact revenge for one of their most humiliating losses for this year. The Bloods' only win to date came at the expense of the Eagles by 37 points back in Round 4 at Richmond. That form hasn't been repeated by the Bloods again, although a one-goal loss to Adelaide last week suggested they may have turned a corner. The Eagles were forced to work against the Bulldogs at Elizabeth, eventually outrunning them in the final term. Signs of struggle were there in the opening term for the Eagles, but the Bloods' wayward shooting allowed them to be within two points at quarter-time instead of two goals wide with the quarter-time board reading 1.3 to 1.1. Soon enough though the Eagles hit their stride, booting 6.2 to the Bloods' horrid four behinds to be up by 32 points at the long break. It was pretty much the Eagles' show from here, although the accuracy was a bit off in the third term. A further 4.6 to the visitors' 2.3 stretch the gap out to 47 points going into the final change. The Eagles would run out 10 goal winners, finishing off with a 5.2 to 3.1 last quarter. Jordan Foote continues to impress, taking best afield honours for the Eagles while the Bloods voted in Kaine Stevens as their standout.

The other game for the Saturday arvo sends us up to the northern suburbs where we find the Bulldogs taking on the Crows at the X-Convenience Oval in Elizabeth. The Crows inflicted a 35-point loss on the Dogs from their last venture to Elizabeth back in Round 5, after they drew the previous week against South. That win was the start of an undefeated streak which included last week's lucky escape against Westies, while the doldrums have continued at the Ponderosa with their loss to the Eagles. Not much was going to change against the stacked line-up the Crows brought this time around, breaking away to a four-goal lead by quarter-time with their 5.2 to 1.2 opening quarter. The Dogs managed to stem the tide somewhat, but still leaked 3.1 and scored just 1.2 as the deficit crept out to 35 points by the half-time break. Anytime the Dogs got any headway, the Crows' bigger bodies would head down back and tower over their opponents. The inaccuracy bug made the Dogs' third quarter even more infuriating for their fans, although the gap was brought back to within a five-goal reach. They scored 4.4 to 3.3, Adelaide's lead back to 28 points at three quarter-time. The Dogs were reduced to near-spectator status in the final term, scoring just one behind as Adelaide added 4.4 to run out easy 55-point winners. Bryce Gibbs surely won't be playing seconds for too long with his best on ground efforts for Adelaide, the Dogs would name first gamer Steve Burton as their best.

The last three games took place on the Sunday afternoon, away from local AFL influence. The first of which finds us going to the Prospect Oval as the Roosters hosted the Double Blues. It has been a quick turnaround between battles, it was just before the State game bye that the Blues took a 34-point win at Unley in Round 6. The Roosters are still looking for the victory that will take away the minus points on the ladder, having been belted by the Tigers last week while the Blues went down to a Magpies side hosting some returning Power front liners. Perhaps more than a little stung from that outing, the Roosters would be the ones in front at the first change. They scored 4.2 to the Blues' 2.2 to lead by 12 points at quarter-time. North managed to maintain their position in the second term, but the lead was chipped back by a point by half-time with a scoreline of 3.1 to 3.2. However the momentum came to an abrupt and total halt, the Rooster show finished at the break and the Sturt show was up next. The Blues kept the reigning premiers scoreless in the third term, inaccuracy would however keep the Roosters within possible reach at the final change. They scored 3.5 to hold a two-goal lead at three quarter-time. That comeback would never come, North scored only five behinds while the Blues added 2.1 to win by 20 points. Josh Hone was voted Sturt's best afield, the Roosters named Jarrad Allmond as their best.

We're now off to the southern suburbs and into the Flinders University Stadium in Noarlunga where we find the Panthers and the Tigers face off in the SANFL's Clash of the Cats. Their last encounter was one that won't be forgotten in a hurry, a last second behind saving the Tigers from a loss but they didn't win either. A 70-all draw was the result back in Round 3 at Tiger-land. If that wasn't enough, the Panthers would go on to draw again the following week against the Crows! The Panthers fell agonisingly short against the Redlegs last week, while the Tigers swept the Roosters aside. The Panthers endured a horrid opening term where they kicked five behinds while the Tigers managed 3.1 to lead by 14 points at quarter-time. South would turn that around in the second term though, finally finding the big sticks to score 6.3 to the Tigers' 3.1. The home side went into the rooms at the break with a one-goal lead. The third quarter was a shootout, almost going blow for equal blow. An additional point would be added to the half-time deficit, South having scored 5.1 to Glenelg's five goals without a miss to lead by seven points at three quarter-time. The visitors would rue several missed opportunities in the final stanza, the Panthers scored two goals as the Tigers peppered their goal for a return of 2.3. South won the day by four points in an epic finish. Abaina Davis was named best for the Panthers, the Tigers voted for Luke Reynolds as their best.

In the final game for the weekend, it was the renewal of a classic SANFL rivalry at the Alberton Oval when the Magpies clashed with the Redlegs. Earlier this season in Round 4, the Redlegs inflicted a 34-point defeat on the Magpies at The Parade. Since that time, the Redlegs hit a couple of stumbling blocks but have recovered in recent weeks with victories against West and South. The Magpies have hit some bumps in the road as well, but last week's win against Sturt as well as the inclusion of a couple of big name Power players have added confidence to the team. The Redlegs were coming in a bit short handed with several frontline players on the injury list. The Magpies had the better start, kicking off the afternoon's action with a 4.3 to 3.2 opening term to lead by seven points at the first change. Port would stretch that advantage to 19 points by the half-time break, they added a further 4.2 to the 'Legs 2.2 in the second term. Norwood had some goal-kicking issues in the third quarter as they attempted to bridge the gap, the only thing they managed to do was bring it to within three straight kicks. The Redlegs scored 3.4 to 3.2, reducing the Magpies' lead to 17 points by three quarter-time. But the differences between the fitter, AFL-talent laden outfit and the part-timers would be on show in the finishing term, the home side ramming home 6.4 to two goals and ran out 45-point winners. Ollie Wines is sure to earn a Power call up with his best on ground votes for Port, while the Redlegs would name Lewis Johnston as their best.

CROWEATERS VICTORIOUS IN 16's & 18's CHAMPIONSHIP OPENERS
The South Australians have opened their respective national championship matches against Western Australia in Perth, with the U-16's winning by 29 points on Sunday at Optus Stadium and the U-18's by 11 points just 24 hours earlier at Subiaco Oval. The U-16 lads had the seemingly easier outing, after wasting several opportunities in the first quarter they came out firing in the second, kicking six goals to three to lead by 26 points at half-time. Centrals' Isaiah Dudley was their standout, kicking four goals and amassing 27 disposals. With the U-18's, it was a low-scoring affair with the breakthrough term coming in the third when SA kicked four goals to one and withstood a final term onslaught. Norwood's Dylan Stevens racked up 23 disposals, while Eagles middy Lachie McNeil made 12 tackles which was a game high. The U-18's will play again this Saturday at Alberton against Victoria Metro, while the U-16's will have to wait until early July for their next matches in Queensland.

What’s the bust up between Eagles and Sturt supporters you talk about?

Its going back a fair while, about 10 years ago.

An altercation in the crowd. Not sure of the specifics but it was at Woodville.
Ok, thought that might’ve been what you were referring to but guessed it was something this year.
That was Treeby while not playing and a couple of the Sturt Cheer Squad
