Well seeing there are a lot of us here that are pretty damn passionate about our SANFL clubs (Drum, RL, Me, Fryingpan etc) thought might setup a little off season thread here to post any news about signings etc that come up. I'll kick it off with today's official announcement from The Parade, needless to say I am excited pretty sure Drum will be as well:

Key Signings

Ladies & Gentleman

We are very pleased today to announce the key signings of Kris Massie (1 year), Andrew Lee (2 years), Dean Terlich (2 years) & Bryce Campbell (3 years).

Kris’s record speaks for itself playing a total of 131 AFL games (88 Adelaide & 43 Carlton).

The experience, leadership & most of all the versatile playing capabilities that Kris will bring to the Norwood football club will continue to help in our quest to become one of the most powerful football club’s within the SANFL.

Andrew is a strong marking, well skilled 196cm and 93kg Key position player from the Essendon Football Club who has played 5 senior games of AFL football.

Originally taken at pick 30 in the 2005 National draft from the Burnie Dockers in Tasmania, Andy is a good replacement for either Stuart Bown (retired) or Taylor Walker (who is likely to spend time with the Adelaide Crows).

Dean Terlich joins us after spending season 2008 on Sydney’s Rookie list. A skillful and quite powerful midfielder/half forward Dean chose Norwood in front of a number of other interstate & local club’s due to a strong relationship he has with fellow teammates Sam Rowe, Mal Dougals & Crow listed Taylor Walker.

Bryce Campbell returns to the Club he loves, the Club he calls home & the only club he was ever going to play for after a couple of frustrating seasons at AFL level with the Adelaide Crows. Bryce has spent the past two months home on the farm in Wagga Wagga freshening up both his body and mind before coming across & signing with the Club yesterday. Bryce always wanted to be at Norwood & has decided not to return home or pursue other options as his preference was to stay at the Parade.

All these gentlemen’s signings are subject to being re-drafted in this year’s National or Pre season drafts.

The Club is generally excited about the prospect of having these boys for season 2009 & beyond & we look forward to their contribution towards our quest to win our first flag since 1997.

Mark Ross

Football Operations Manager

And for Norwood, Stuart Bown, Matt Dawes and Heath Culpitt have all retired from the club and of course this news:

Nathan Bassett to Head Up New Skills Academy

The Norwood Football Club is proud to announce that it has signed former champion Crows and Redlegs defender, Nathan Bassett, to head up it's new Skills Academy in season 2009.

Bassett joins recently appointed Under 18's coach Trevor Pott's and Junior Development Manager David Oatey as the team responsible for creating a new level of excellence in the advancement of junior football in the Norwood area.

Nathan Bassett progressed through the Norwood junior ranks, making his league debut with the Redlegs in 1994 , where he played 48 league games, before commencing his career with the Adelaide Football Club in 1998. With 210 games with the Crows, Nathan is considered one of the finest defender's in the Club's history. As Head of the Redleg's Skills Academy, Nathan will work with league coach Trevor Hill and the other Norwood coaches to provide specific, tailored skills development programs for junior players with the view to significantly increasing the number of home grown players who progress through to play league football for Norwood. The Redleg's Skills Academy will also aim to provide playing and coaching skills services to Club's and schools in its zone, strengthening this crucial, yet sometimes, undervalued relationship between all of the custodians of Australian football in the Norwood area.

Trevor Potts was the Assistant League Coach-Defence for the Norwood Football Club in 2008. A former Principal with the Brighton Secondary School, Trevor's extensive coaching background includes 29 years in metropolitan and country leagues, including 11 senior premierships, an under 19's premiership with West Adelaide and a stint with South Adelaide where he took their reserve's side to a Grand Final in 2006/7. He brings tremendous experience, enthusiasm and teaching credentials to the crucially important role of guiding Norwood's elite under 18 footballers through to successful senior careers.

David Oatey will continue in his role of Junior Development Manager and new coach of the Norwood under 16's side. David has over the past 7 years, built an impressive development platform for junior football in the Norwood area and will be instrumental in assisting Nathan and Trevor further expand this program in 2009.

Norwood President, Joe Tripodi, said today, "next to premiership success, nothing is more important and valuable to our club than the development of its outstanding young players. The appointment of Trevor and Nathan to join Trevor Hill and David Oatey in building the next generation of outstanding young men of Norwood, aims to return our club to the forefront of junior development in Australian football. This is an exciting new era for the Norwood Football Club"

I am so excited about the season ahead for the legs, by the looks of things they have recruited well (benefited from delistings) from a selfish point of view i hope cockshell and pfieffer don't get pick up (from what I have heard they will) but 2009 is going to be an exciting year for legs, it might make the trip to centrals worth it!!!

South Adelaide have started their pre-season training............. I however have a problem with it They're not at Noarlunga oval they're at Flinders University and you see I play Soccer Our Club the Flinders Flames train there! we've booked the place through the uni and we turn up to training and get told to pretty much **** off! now I had a word to whoever was running this whole shebangs and gave him a bit of lip and he agreed to give us a fraction of space! hardly ebough to train properly!

So I'm Currently Very ****ed Off with South Adelaide at the moment

oh and another thing when they go for their run they run straight through the middle of our training session and the langaue is disgraceful F'ing' this and that about girls and getting in the way!

The can get ****ed! and go back to noarlunga!

Don't blame South for training away from Noarlunga. If it isn't the biggest shithole in Adelaide, it's in the grand final.

Surely there is enough room at Flinders Uni for everyone. Those ovals are massive and there is a third oval across the service road.

Every year our soccer team has problems with Footy clubs at the Adelaide Uni grounds adjacenet to the loop. Every team and his dog seems to think its free space to train on when in fact its not as its University space for our teams.

One year Daryl Hart got very mad with our 60 year old team manager after being told to leave the area. Knob.

Darel Hart might be a Crows legend thanks to that floating left footer against Hawthorn at Waverly in '91, but he is a complete w***er.
