Well that was the headline on ch9 news tonight. I thought, oh, ******** another off-field incident we didn't need.

Turns out Sarge finished second in triathalon at Strath today. Finishing 12 seconds behind the Birdman :D.

I thought that was a pretty bloody good effort from Sarge. We can look forward to Sarge running his opponents into the ground in 2006 :thumbsu: :D

He's been doing that for a while now.
What we need is for him to be double teamed, and the signs so far look good:thumbsu: (if one cant keep up?? use 2)

This almost is ridiculous. How can a KPP do this well ? Typically its your midfielder/utility types who have the huge engines, not the KPP's ! A credit to the Sarge and the effort he has put in to building his fitness (both muscle and aerobic capacity) in the last 2 years. Go Sarge !

Also, coming in 12 seconds behind the Birdman is no mean feat either.

On the contrary,

A KKP should have a huge engine just like a midfielder. I remember Wayne Carey talking to Jonathon brown on fox on Saturday Central and he said that he used to get like 14.3 – 14.6’s in the beep test and regally used to introduce multi skilled training into the pre seasons to develop different behaviours to the fitness needed. Half arsed athletes don’t get them sort of numbers without having the fitness base behind them, Sarge looks like he has stepped up and is going to have a huge season.

lets hope his hands soften and his leg straightens:rolleyes:

I didnt say they shouldnt have, I said typically its the midfielders who have the huge engines and they are the ones that usually dominate the time trials.

Speaking of triathlon, I was watching channel 10 last Saturday(?) and there was a footy triathlon on as part of a triathlon festival or something. Adelaide were one of 7 AFL teams and finished 2nd behind Brisbane lions (well third but the second team cut acroos the road and missed half the sprint)

It was a scaled down triathlon and we had (i think) Rutten-swimming, McGregor-Cycling and Reilly-running. Did anyone else hear about this????
:) :)

He looked good. Ian has improved by leaps and bounds in the last 12 months or so. Lets hope he has a dynamic 2006.

He used to be slow, unco, and a shocking kick (why did he get drafted?)

To his credit, he has added something each of the last 3 years. First he increased his speed, then 2 years ago his kicking improved under DJ, and last year his co-ordination increased (he used to mark the ball with his elbows quite a lot). What's new next year - his endurance by the sound of it.

He might even get the football smarts one of these years and be the complete package by the time he retires.

I think he already was pretty good in terms of his endurance. I always thought he covered a lot of ground for a tall forward. This year, his aerobic capacity allowed him to be as effective as he has been.

Took a lot of the pressure off the Welshs' and Potentials' of this world.

Lets hope Bonaddio can take a leaf out of Ians book. Perrie has always put in the hard yards on the field and the trak. People see him as an easy target to bag. For my mind the amount of work he puts in on the field greatly makes up for the odd mistake he makes

Sure did. I remember off season comments referring to his size last year.
Strange how ther has been many good players with wierd kicking actions...John Klug the 2nd in prowess and grit

probably because the above isn't true ;)

Although he was taken in the same draft as James Thiessen, Linden Stevens and early McGrug...

Guilt by association?

Exactly right.

Sarge was U18 AA CHF and he was never slow. His recovery might have sucked and his kicking might have been an updated version of russian roulette but Sarge had quite a few attributes that were interesting to AFL scouts.

You don't end up U18s AA if you didn't have something going for you.
