Ahhh the joys of living up North :)

Yeah they have merged. I think the new company was going to be called SPC Ardmona Ltd. When I drove through Shep recently I noticed they were extending their factory outlet.

Yeah don't hear much news of rural Victoria up here! Well sounds like a good move to me

Sarsparilla is not creaming soda (or Screaming Odour as my old man would say :) )

Sars is the same as Root Beer. Root Beer is called as such as it is made from the root of the Sarsparilla bush....true !

I love it.

And where the hell have you been lately Mat? :p

I dislike the taste of Sars but Portello is something I'd much rather drink.

I like to drink sarsparilla at the pub if I'm not drinking alcohol. What I can't stomach is that Italian drink "Chincotta" (sp?).

I would have posted more on Bigfooty but no-one has asked any questions about the relative strengths of the VFL and SANFL pre 1975 so I didn't have anything to talk about.

thanks for taking an interest

Sorry Satay have to disagree, they sell root beer & sarsparilla, I love sars but hate root beer, they taste completely different.

from www.rootbeer.org

Where does root beer / birch beer / sarsaparilla come from?
the names are derived from how this drinks USED to be made, flavored with the roots of trees. no companies really do this anymore, but you can if you really want to try. the way i see it is this: birch beer came from birch trees, sarsaparilla came from sassafras trees and root beer came from one or more of many different trees, most often the sassafras tree.
in order to get sassafras root these days though, you have to dig it up yourself since it is illegal to buy or sell it. something about if you drank 300 gallons of root beer in a hour, you might get cancer or something. some recipes are on my links page.

end quote.

So, they more often than not come from the same root of the same plant...of course the Sassafras tree not the sarspaprailla tree...D'oh.....anyway....I am still right but I respect your right to post on this board.

:)
