Do you think the success of Nick Sautner at Sandy has been detrimental to the lack of development in our key forwards over the last few years?

The guy just kicks goal after goal, and is generally the first option, making it pretty difficult for younger guys to develop into the key go to forward

Sandy isn't a development team for Melbourne, they're their own team and they have every right to play who they want where they want. I don't think you can blame them for playing the best full forward in the comp at the expense of the kids we've picked up in the draft.

We're affiliated with one another of course but Sandy doesn't have the obligation to set aside their aspirations for the development of MFC listed players. But I can see where you're coming from, rarely anyone would get a crack in the goalsquare with bit fella down there

Yeah I know they have no obligation, but, as you pointed out, I was getting at the fact that no one is a chance to develop down there...

It is probably fair to assume that with Sandy being so dominant over the last 4 years it has affected the younger guys development. If you look at Sandy's best players they are better than or younger guys. Week in week out their best named in the paper is prodominantly Sandy listed players.

We should get our own team but I see finances getting in the way off that one, the other option which I think we should pursue is splitting with Sandy and joining with the Casey Scorpions, with our new summer training base to be out that way it makes sense. Obviously we would have to get them to split with St Kilda which could be made easier if the Saints try to affiliate themselves with Frankston with their new training base there. Arguably the two best Victorian teams at the moment in Geelong and Hawthorn practically have their own VFL team (Box Hill Hawks haven't been a serious team in quite a while and seem to always have the Hawthorn guys in key positions). So if we could possibly affiliate with Casey and persuade Casey to not have an overly strong team it would be great. I've enjoyed the success with Sandringham but their desire to win (and good on them, they've taken advantage of a good system for them) has hurt us.
