My 15 year high school reunion is up soon and the closer I get to it the less I want to go. I know some people from it having seen em socially and at uni but otherwise I haven't seen most of em since I left school.
Can people post experiences of school reunions that they've had?
Are they even worth going to?

Went to a 15 year one last year. Was a bloody laugh. Hardly talked to any of the people there since, but the night itself was great.

I've always wondered how the schools actually go about contacting people for these things so far down the track?

Phone book
Electoral Rolls

and yeah, these days, facebook

I had a 25 year reunion in 2005, had a ball. We decided on the night to do it again every 5 years, so we have another later next year.

There was probably about 80 or so that turned up out of approximately 240. I don't know if it was unusual or not but about 80% of those that turned up were the anglos. Of the people of European decent that turned up most were chicks.

Worth going, and if it is a total farce, you can just leave and do something better..

Its good to see those that evolve and those that regress or stay the same. It was also good to see those that bullied at school still ahd that mindset and believed they could continue it on the night, they were soon dealt with and a good night was had by all...

Surely with facebook now you can just keep in vague contact and catch up with the people worth catching up with every now and then.

I hate people that you've had absolutely nothing to do with over like six years of high school and once you're finished whenever you run into them you are best buddies. A school reunion you'd just get that 50 times over in the one night, what a nightmare.

The way I seen it if you wanted to catch up or keep in contact with these people, you would.

Yeah true. But a group session where you can see em all at once is a very different situation to a one on one.

My school had a 1-year reunion last year. I didn't get invited.

Not that I would have gone, but still...

LOL!

My school had a 1 year thing in 06, I didn't go because I felt 1 year was a pointless amount of time to have a reunion. 5, 10, 15 etc you can understand. But 1 ****ing year? Get over yourselves.

I'll go to my 5 year in 2010 and see people I haven't seen for a while, to see how they're going.

There's a lot of people in Melbourne who love the school they went to way too much. The number of people at uni who strut around in their year 12 polo tops, some from even 06, is sickening. Move on

I went to a 5 year re union a while back and deadset 60% of the chicks were either pregnant or had a child, and i didnt even go to a shitty school, however the girls were ****ty at best

Agree. Also there's people who get around in their school trackies, carrying their schoolbags.........on weekends.........

Anyway yeah, reunions are dumb. As others have said, the people you give a shit about, you'd still keep in touch with anyway. The rest of them I couldn't be f*cked spending a whole night having a pretentious conversation with them when I'll probably never see them again, or want to see them for that matter.

Ha, I still wear my year 12 rugby jumper around the house. It's Canterbury, so it's very well made and comfortable.

My school also had a 1 year reunion and then after that they do one every 5 years.

Many of these kids are at school sport. If not, well that's kind of wanky, isn't it?

Maybe the children of the Establishment feel under threat. With wogs and some CUB's now shelling out for Lacoste/Ralph Lauren etc etc, wearing garb with <insert APS or equiv. girls'> school monogram about is the only way the Entitled Class can distinguish itself from the uppity, aspirational plebs. Heaven help poor Annabelle when she discovers the Fred Perry-wearing lad she struck up a convo with at Toorak Village was actually visiting from Preston:eek:. The trickery!!!

Seriously though, school uniform's for school, but you can kind of understand why some might like to show off the fact their folks paid/are paying a significant five-figure sum/s for their education.

For those among us schooled in the outer 'burbs - time travel is alive and well. 2011 will be my 20th year removed from Year 12 and I have no doubt many are still livin' in 1991, except balder, fatter and raising children with awful names.

I've only ever been to one, being a six year primary school one when I was in year 12.

It ended up being a pretty good afternoon/night. There were no real knobs in my year level, so everyone got along.

Same here, didn't bother with the one year reunion. It'd be too much like the first day of school for the year, but with beer.

I'm more looking forward to the five year one, which will be in 2011.

Yeah it'll be interesting to see if/how much people have changed. We had a fair few twats in my year 12 so I'm thinking a few wouldn't have changed at all. I'd be pretty confident in saying that most of them fall under the "peaked in high school" category.

So they would have been... 22? 23? How is it "****ty" to have a child at that age?

Amazed to see the amount of chicks popping out kids from my old school, and I'm only 19!

Had a chick pull out of year 10 and have one aswell.
