29 possessions 17 marks.

His biggest numbers game no doubt about it.

How did people see his game yesterday along with his overall progress?

I missed the first half, but 2nd half he was in the thick of it, offering a lot of support 3rd man up and was generally very good. Probably the most composed I've seen him as well.

I said it at the beginning of last season. Schulz needs/ed to string together 20-40 games in succession to show his wares. I think its beginning to show now.

Is definitely a keeper in my book.

He was pretty good. Gets to contests which is very important and as usual wasn't afraid to throw his weight around.

On the negative side he still does a lot of dumb things as a footballer which if eradicated would raise his worth in my books. When he makes a clanger it is inevitably a disaster, like the switch across goal early on. Things like kicking into an oncoming smother, hospital handballs...that type of stuff.

Definately got better in the second half

Got a lot of the ball yesterday it seemed to follow him around, he worked realy hard to get to space and contests but as has already been said made some royal screw ups with the ball.

Makes some right royal screw ups, but appears to genuinely hurt when he does, and busts a gut to make up for it. What more can you ask ???

Thank you! I've always been a vocal fan of Schulz. For a bloke 6 foot 4 his run out of defence is mighty impressive. As is his intensity at the ground-level contest. He is both a linkman and an aerial threat. And he generally kicks the ball extremely well. Please god leave him at CHB.

He's only about 22. Had a good run of injury lately and is slowly proving his worth. Seems to have forgotten how to kick for goal since he's been in defence :D

Schulz baffles me. Doesn't do enough, week in, week out.

Goog game yesterday though. However, his big possession count was due to playing the loose man in defence.

Would be amazed if we traded him with doubt over Polak.

Played one of his best games for the club on Sunday.
Rare type who's filling the pinch hit role forward & back quite well.

Hopefully gets a new deal soon.

I honestly think he will be used as trade bait at the end of the year. I don't think that he has do enough to stay.
When he has so much promise like the game where he kicked a mass of goals. But since then hasn't really shown that he can keep it going week in and week out.

Just getting his trade value up nicely with those stats.

If we are stupid enough to trade him based on the way he has played this year, you can be sure that it will come back and bite us on the arse big time.
He has had a fairly consistent season and is at the right age for a big man to start really taking control of games.
I for one think that he needs another 2 years and if he has a shocker next year then maybe delist him but with the improvement this year it would be a real shame to see another team get the benefit of the time we have put into him.

In the game I watched he was playing on a certain Jarrod Roughhead. Towelled him up I'd say. Hang on ...isnt that the guy that Hawthorn picked over Franklin?? lmao

Total nuff nuff Schulz. Turnover king early in game.
Hey Tony, ya mum's going to get 29 possessions, 17 marks EVENTUALLY if she plays long enough in the AFL.
Schulz has been dropped around 14 times already. What's that say? Hmmmm.
Don't get to attached to this clown. Will be replaced as soon as some younger more consistent player fills the 22nd spot this numbnut fills.
Schulz will kick 100 goals in a season eventually...............in some shitty country league. That's his standard.
Shees.... if Patty Bowden can kick 17.

dont knock my local league, the top EFL clubs would give half the VFL sides a towelling ;) :D

as for schulz, i think i'll stay on board, almost dropped off last year, but theres something there. I reckon he can play and most importantly he looks like he hurts for the team. Has come good for mine, contributes most weeks and is definitely getting better.

Port or Crows...done deal.

Yep.

Ray Hall had a good game once too.

It's funny how posts like this emerge after Schulz's single good game for the year. All I hear about Schulz is that he hasn't been allowed to settle in a single position. You know why? Cos he's not good enough for any position, he doesn't take control of games. That's why he was back in the LMID role on Sunday. Only way he can get a regular kick. Polak showed more in a defensive role against Tredrea than Schulz has done all season.

He can have another two years...on someone else's list. The only thing that will save him is Polak and how he comes back from his injury. We've got better defenders and better forwards (and will surely get more forwards this year). Schulz is expendable.

It's funny how people with a set against a player think they've only played one good game all year, when others see that that player has been good practically ALL year and are always baffled when he's dropped. Schulz is a better player than Polak, especially in defence. Polak towelled up Tredrea yes, cos Tredrea's the only bloke he'll play on down back who's as slow as him. But there's no point arguing with someone who's got a set against a bloke. You're right, Schulz is crap, has played one good game and will be traded.
We'll see.

I think Polak's recovery will determine Schulz's future at Richmond. Only room for one in the side at a time. But both might remain on the list until we are sure that Rance or someone else will make it.
If fit, I prefer Polak - but there are obviously huge question marks over him, so Schulz will stay (unless we get a good trade offer - 2nd round pick is possible, I think).

That's rubbish. Early on this season I had hopes for Schulz in a defensive role. I thought his strength would be an asset for him back there. He's had a lot of time, and I thought this year would be the one, especially after he was nearly traded.

But come on, disco man, you seriously can't tell me that there's room for Schulz in a backline that now contains Thursfield, Moore and McGuane, with Rance still to come? Schulz is too limited, he's nowhere near as flexible as those guys are. I didn't rate McGuane all that highly but he's streaked past Schulz this year, Moore as well. Tell me, who has Schulz beaten this year? His defensive efforts seem to be either crash the pack (oh look, another goal to the opponents small forward) or get a fist in, which the other three can do significantly better. You know why Schulz wasn't included in that "case for the defense" article on Sunday? Cos he's not a defender's bootlace. The only role he can play down back with any "success" is LMID. Wonderful. Give him a 3 year deal now.

If he's gonna stay at Richmond, he's gotta make it as a forward. But he's not being played there. Why do you think that is?

I reckon he wasn't in the article cos Emma Quayle or whoever it was didn't ask to interview him, because he's been in and out of the side, up forward and down back. But I reckon with those four blokes we have the makings of a defence with a bit of height, a lot of athleticism and the ability to switch men or cover for each other at any time. They can all play small or tall. Schulz is the most skilled of the lot, even more than Moore. He hits his targets far more often than not, and he runs out of defence better than all of them.
I have to say I have turned around on McGuane. I didn't think much of him but I've fallen in love with his attack on the ball and man. He's a mongrel, and we need that. I still get nervous when he kicks but he's become pretty safe.
Re Schulz, I've only been to the Bulldogs game, where he played very well, the Hawthorn loss, where I was baffled as to why he wasn't put on Roughead when he was tearing us a new one (not his fault but Wallace's), the Dreamtime game (played well) and the Carlton debacle when no one played well. Nearly every other game I've watched on TV, where it's hard sometimes to know who plays on who. I was told he played on Roughead on the weekend?
Now that I'm back in Melbourne full time I'll be happy to go to a game with you: you can elbow me in the ribs every time he mucks up and I'll elbow you in the ribs every time he does something good. Let the ribs of truth decide!
