Seriously, how f*cked is this website?

You have a browse to pass some time and see something that looks useful.

You buy the item, and in doing so have to sign up and you tick the 'no don't send me your stupid emails please' boxes.

Soon after, you get several promo emails every day.

You ferret around on Google searching for how to stop the emails and find a thread on whirlpool with input from a Scoopon representative.

The 'My Account section of the Scoopon website (specifically, the My Email Subscriptions page)' as advised does not exist, so you look for the (tiny) link in the footer of each newsletter to unsubscribe. You are directed to a part of the website where you untick all the boxes. Again.

5 minutes later, a promotional email in the inbox. You search for 'Unsubscribe' under Ctrl-F and it doesn't come up.

FFFFFFUUUUUUUUUU.

had a similar experience with catchoftheday.com.au where they were sending me 5+ emails per day. as i get emails on my mobile it was very annoying. after a similarly drawn out process i managed to unsubscribe.

now i have a separate gmail account that i use for all gimmicky e-commerce sites that does not get linked to my phone, and i do not check unless something's gone wrong with a purchase.

do not use your work/everyday email for these type of things in future unless you're interested in being bombarded with offers of their crap products.

Fairly certain that by law there has to be an unsubscribe button on the email.

Generally at the bottom, click it. :thumbsu:

i'm pretty sure you are too

i don't know how much authority the ACMA has... they are a government agency but i don't know and it does say on that notice that the company was in breach of the spam act so i guess there must be something in there to state that all e-mail campaigns or subscriptions must have a method for the user to unsubscribe....

Yeah, I have never had a problem with this. There always seems to be an unsubscribe link down the bottom.

It's a bit annoying having to do it every time you buy something, but I figure that's just part of the price you pay for cheap meals etc.
