CARLTON midfielder Heath Scotland has been charged with recklessly causing injury following an incident in May last year.
Scotland is co-operating with authorities during the investigation into the matter.
No details of the incident have been released and Carlton is refusing to comment any further.
"The matter will now follow the appropriate course," a spokesman said.
Scotland, 25, is a former Collingwood star who played in the Magpies' 2002-03 grand finals.
He played 53 games for Collingwood from 1999-2003 before being traded to Carlton.
Scotland last August re-signed with the Blues for a further two years.
