A tribute to the heart and soul of the win on Friday night. In perhaps his final year we saw vintage Burns. When we were getting beaten everywhere he held us together with hard faught centre clearances and desperation all over the ground. In the second half when we got on top it was Burns leading then charge. As Simmonds tired and the alternative was mush, Fraser got some good tapwork going and we saw what smart midfielders can do with winning rucks. The old timer dashed clear and pumped it forward to allow the forwards a chance to beat their opponents.

Fraser may have been the official leader on the night but Scott Burns lead from the front, took charge and responsibility and showed them all how to go about playing the game.

Here’s to at leat another year of Scott Burns busting a gut for his black and white striped jumper.

Absolute champion and superstar. Every one talks about how difficult it will be to replace Buckley, but I fear that Burns will be just as great a loss, and just as difficult to replace, albeit for different reasons.

There is going to be a massive whole to fill in the side when burns and bux go and they may go at the end of the year.

We dont have a young, hard at it midfielder to fill the gap atm, i wish burnsy was about 22 and not 32 sometimes.

Jesus if he continues to play like he did on Friday night then i hope he stays around for at least another season.

What an absolute champion.
Exactly right. Why would you get rid of him if he can still perform at the elite level. If he can play like this until the end of 08, then that allows time for Pendles, Thomas, Swan and co to get plenty of game time under their belt and make the transition of our older brigade retiring a lot less painless knowing that the players replacing them are prepared. In saying that though, Buckley & Burns have to look at how their bodies will hold up at the end of 08 and see if they can make it through another tough year, not just the start.
P.S Burns is a champion.:thumbsu: :thumbsu: :thumbsu: :thumbsu: :thumbsu: :thumbsu:

A tribute to Scott Burns is not the same without Sir in the title/opening post. He was the best after half-time. Only Burnsy can do it, only he can read the Richards hitout, only he can lead the way.

Ron, Burnsy will go on for another season, mark it down, he is a trooper.

I pretty sure burnsy and bucks will both play on next year!!!!

I doubt your club has had a greater servant. His heart must be as big as Phar Laps.

Nothing against Sir Scott, but quite a few names would be ahead of Sir Scott regarding club servants.

Brilliant game from Sir Scott, game changed in the second half when Burns and O'Bree began in the middle, we started winning clearances! not rocket science really, first half at one stage i saw we had Dick, Cox and Thomas in the middle roving to Richards.........good to give the young blokes a go, but need to have one of Burns, O'Bree, Licka in there with them to remain competitive!

I walked away from the ground on Friday night and said Scott Burns was best on ground by a mile tonight, when i got in the car the radio station didn't give him a vote, utter bullsh*t,

He was sensational.

and he would be very close to B&F leader at this early stage.

how good would copeland trophy night be if he won it, magical moment

I agree totally.......I'm not sure what station you were listening to but I know I heard a couple of them give him votes. I fell off my stool the next morning when he wasn't in the HS votes....Burns was by far the most influential player on the ground. Without a doubt he was best on ground and I don't understand how an argument could have been made for anyone else.

In the first half he was very good. In the second half he was brilliant. If he wasn't gettting the clearance he was making sure the Richmond guys didn't. Even when Richmond got first hands on the ball it was usually Burnsy who locked them up or deflected the opposition quick hands keeping the ball contested.

I remember thinking in the third term we left our midfield in unchanged for a long stretch (I think it was Burns, thomas and O'Bree) and whether or not we'd tire. I think Richmond would have been thinking the same thing at 3/4 time that they would have a little more run because of this and the Perth trip last week.

Kudos to MM for leaving this crew in for the time he did and not make the scheduled changes. Sometimes football is not about sports science and optimum output levels....sometimes its just about guts.......sometimes its just about having Scott Burns on your team!

Yes the man is only to be referred to as "Sir Scott" - he is nothing short of a superstar. Have had #17 on my back for 10 years and it aint going anywhere.

thought the same thing

Rocca was good but it was Burns that got us going

reckon Lockyer would be the club house leader, all three games he has been good

how good would copeland trophy night be if he won it, magical moment
Would be brilliant!

If Burnsy was to continue his form and avoid injury.....and won the Copeland Trophy in 2007....I don't know if there would ever have been a more popular winner in the history of the award.

Gives me chills just thinking of the 10 minute standing ovation and the smiles on all the black and white faithful.....now where's that Burnsy video again....need some more Scotty Burns to get through the day.

Yep totally agree with all that has been said....it was exciting watching him on friday and it was great to see him doing what he did best in his prime. I love these sort of players, courageous, hard at it, never give up attitude and leadership qualities....its brilliant! He will have a great year and im sure we will see him here next year...i hope so! definitly in my top 5 favourite collingwood players! Heres to Sir Scott!

Just curious to know what you mean by that...

was replying to wood_duck

he doubts whether the club has had a greater servant........the club has been going for 100+ years

names like

McHale
Coventry
Collier
Mann
Kyne
Rose
Shaw
Buckley

are legendary names, who gave service as players then coaches/administrators etc. they built the club into what it is today

Burns is a brilliant player, but the clubs greatest ever servant is a rather silly comment

Burns is the 00's equivalent of Banks in the 80's the gutsy leader who gives his all every game, and a crowd fav

Banks is grossly overrated. He played one consistent year - 1990 - albeit a very long injury list. I was a tad surprised to find out he was inducted into the Collingwood Hall of Fame; alongside names such as Kevin Rose and Lou Richards.

Sir Scott Burns has been better over his career then Dennis Banks.

Fair enough.
Very true.

On friday, when scotty charged out of the centre in the final quarter and nailed a 40m flat pass straight onto medhurst's chest to finish it; could not been any more punped up. Could watch the old war-horse play on forever!

that is the bit i was referring to

Banks was introduced to a rousing reception, a crowd favourite, a tough footballer.........just like Burns

wasn't really referring to playing ability, more in terms of the servant to the club aspect!
