Moore and Grundy would be my last 2 selections for captains.

Adams, Maynard and Crisp streets ahead of Moore and Grundy.

Both Moore and Grundy are Laconic and drop their heads. Both have also held the club ransom for contracts in the past and we need to stop allowing that.
Hilarious.

I love Pendles and am happy that he is continuing as captain. If you want to see who stands up in important games, check out the 2018 GF stats.

No doubt that Adams has been excellent in big games, but that is irrelevant to his performance as captain. His play has dropped significantly when he's played as captain.

Personally, I think his strengths are wrong for the role. It's his tunnel vision that makes him a good player, but the role of on-field leadership these days involves a lot of directing traffic, which requires a more peripheral view.

He struggled with his knee last year. Can’t see any reason why he wouldn’t be a good captain.

He's a great example to follow, but I think on-field leadership these days is more about directing traffic than just setting an example. I want him doing what he does best - focussing solely on the sherrin and smashing in to get it, rather than worrying about where others should be.

This is a shame because we deprive the conversation of those ideas.

The bloke who throws tantrums when umpire decisions go against him and gives away 50s?

Yeah... probably not.

Please provide the evidence. How many 50’s has Maynard has conceded across his 138 games and list those specifically that have been given as a result of tantrums.

Can you also delete the posts that contain obviously made up bullshit like the claim Maynard is too emotive and gives away 50s as a consequence. By my count it was 1 occasion across 138 games and 7 years so it’s hardly a pattern of behavior that would/should preclude him from leadership consideration if he’s interested.

Predictions for the rest of the leadership group?

Adams, Darcy and Grundy.

Could there be a smoky for a fifth member?

Didn't stop him from being included last year. Although maybe the new regime will have higher leadership standards

That happens to me every other weekend. Nothing to see…

Sidey or Howe?

Howe by the length of the Flemington straight (in my view anyway); sets a better example. Sidebottom is a good egg but needs to focus on himself. Potentially needs some level of reinvention.

We have enough veterans in the leadership group. We need emerging leaders added and taught how to play the role. No point adding extra leaders right now if they’re over 27 or so.

But I agree, Roughead and Howe are great candidates, shame they will only be around so long.

But who? The problem is that the 21-25 group has no-one suitable and the under 21 group are too young - not yet established.

I’d like to see some next generation leaders in that leadership group. Moore is an obvious one but I’d also consider the likes of Crisp and Maynard. Daicos and Quaynor are probably a bit too young but I’d be hoping all players get considered and the club thinks a bit left field. If probably forgotten some names... it’s the off season!

Probably need to hand the reins to the Grundy Moore Maynard age group to take over from the seniors, for some years until hopefully some of the under 21s put their hand up.

Why is that? Aside from being a very good footballer how can we make that judgement? Because the only evidence we have (ability aside) is his approach to contracts. Like Grundy he marches to the best of his own drum which is fine in an unofficial capacity, but Moore needs to be better in order to be considered an obvious leadership candidate in my eyes.

A good starting point would be to re-sign long term before the season starts for below what he could get on the open market. Stop piss farting with short term deals and lead by the front by committing long term (let’s say 4-5 years at $800k).

I very much agree with the other 4 names depending on which Daicos you were referencing (Nick will be our next generational captain as early as 2025).

Beyond the captain, while it sends a message I think there’s a fair degree of tokenism in the squad named in those supporting roles. Leaders will lead irrespective of any tag they’re given or not given.
