Also Perse if you flick the video reel to the right you will land upon Watters' post game press conference from that same game. Knowing what we know now, it's interesting viewing. Clearly he is frustrated with the direction the playing group took after the first quarter.

The interview was the final mistake but he'd been totally out of control for a while before that. He was coach and self appointed list manager, president, board, contract negotiator...the list goes on.
The midget was insane.

My source at the time said that the board had already convened to bone Watters (after getting the green light from AFL House for the $$$ to pay him out) when he appeared on SEN.

I don't believe that to be true. I do know most of players didn't rate him at all. Young or old. The guy was fruitloop.

The young guys actually liked Watters because he blew smoke up their ar5es.

He backstabbed the older players though, saying one thing to their face and a very different version behind their back.

Just finished watching it. The way he talked about "we" decided that "I'd" been making the kids play too complicated a style of footy (ie, nobody has a flipping clue what I want them to do because I make it into over-complicated gobbledegook"). That was fascinating.

One of the lowest points for me as a fan since the late 90s was how i felt after hearing that the player insubordination.

I think he was always an outsider who challenged the St Kilda institutions (his attitude to the older established stars, his speech about the clubs past, etc) and he clearly wanted to turn the club around.

Even knowing what has been shared on this thread, I can't accept that treatment of a coach. But history shows the players probably were justified.

I think in the end he was probably a bit too much of a smartarse for his own good.

If you heard the things I have heard you wouldn't be able to come up with one good thing about him. Having said that its not his fault he was selected. Same with Watson, Blight and about 20 other coaches. Some of our committees have a lot to answer for. Lets hope we have it right off the field now. Signs are very promising.

Also has on the reel the video of Dylan Roberton talking to Lingy at half time after he was concussed. Poor bloke was totally out of it

Roo went to the board and said he'd scoot if watters didn't get the boot

oh shit, MG beat me to it.

I very very rarely get inside info, but have a player (different team) in the fam and they shared a business associate

What the dogs had when Griffin left would be a smudge compared to what would have happened if Watters remained
So you're saying if Roo left & we dumped Watters anyway, we'd have a premiership by now? ;)

Borderline who was a worse coach.
Him or Watson.

I'll never forget when Tim Watson finished his tenure at St.Kilda and came out and said:

"I can't coach"

No s*** Shirley !!!!

He also decided to play Saad in Brisbane ( when the whole drug saga was going on) without telling anyone else
I'd forgotten about that...if the reports were correct,he was THE selection Committee for the last 4-5 rounds of that season.

The SAAD episode was mind boggling.

Also said:

"The Bombers never took drugs or cheated"

Good ol Timbo's going at .500 [emoji12]

True! Watson took us from Finals to Wooden spoon at a rate of knots! Thereby snaring us Nick Riewoldt and Justin Kozitche! Also sending membership numbers south! AND preparing us for Blight and " the ride of our life"

That's a bit of a double edged sword there Jiggster.

Watters wasn't interested in being nice to the sacred cows of the club and had no background with them, as he could see it needed turning around in order to win a flag, and the club though was more interested in being nice to the demands of the top senior players who mostly didn't do the job in the GFs- the tail wagging the dog, not unlike when Alves got he chop. Add to that Goddard shopping himself around after taking mark of the day in the GF draw. I would have walked before sacking if I was Watters, too many egos to work with.

I have a vague recollection of reading a book one summer holiday from an Essendon person, fairly sure it was Sheedy. Basically was defending Watson, saying it was St Kilda 'culcha' problems rather than Tim coaching, and he would coach again. Almost 20 years on, and still in the media.

I think Richo has been part of a turnaround of the club, and he hasn't seemingly alienated any of the "sacred cows" as you term them, which is basically Montagna and Riewoldt now. If you think getting rid of the sacred cows, for instance Roo who would be the most sacred of all cows, would bring us closer to a flag then I disagree. It would have made us bereft of leadership and have a decade of misery ala Melbourne.

We clearly needed a reset, but I don't think Watters was the right man to do it. And the noise coming out has been Watters alienated more than just the playing group.

Well that's clearly not true. Unfortunately the guy was a genuine fruitloop who had no respect for anyone at the club. Now that is true.

Whilst that might be true given the pres and ceo left at the time. The problem was summers came in and started cleaning up the joint. Including reading the riot act to pelchen and watters. Pelchen wasn't a complete tool so he did what he was told and got on with the job. Watters on the other hand couldn't be told what to do and wouldn't obey orders. He ended getting read the riot act one last firm time. Didnt last long until watters was on radio with SEN after he called them up for an impromptu radio interview because he was paranoid about a board meeting. The rest is history.

I liked Scott and defended him till the end but he only has himself to blame really

Thanks for the insight, Scott.
