Was that the best game he has played?

Do you think we will ever see another performance like that from him?

Back to the back lines this week?

I think its the best game i have seen him play expecially up forward. Couldnt drop a mark.

I hope not but i think thats about as good as he will get!

Back to the back lines I am afraid. Until we face another team which is light on talls up forward or we get another tall option back there ie Mcgregor fit

As a forward, Yes!

Probably

Back to the back lines this week?
Most likely.

Stevens has never been a bad player but people always used to give it to him much like they do to Perrie.

Like any other player he has his weaknesses that can be exploited and sometimes are BUT he also has some real strengths such as genuine football brain and sticky hands.

He is starting to believe that he belongs in this league and subsequently gaining experience. With more experience he will get better and more consistent.

I think there is a chance he will remain in the forwards this week. I liked having the four marking options (Welsh, Stevens, Perrie, Bock) and it looks like it will be a warm day, good for the forwards.

Port will only have Tredrea and Damon White as key forwards, surely Mattner could cover White? Assuming Bassett gets Ebert.

And who covers Lade? ;)

One of our ruckmen.

Let's not be dictated to by the opposition ;)
You have got to be kidding me!

Ever heard of robbing Peter to pay Paul?

Oh and if you are so into the structure and leaving players in positions, then Stevens is our CHB and he should play there regardless of who Port throw up there.

If Burton comes in as expected, then there is no place for Welsh, Perrie, Bock, Stevens and Burton in one forward line.

Stevens to go back to CHB and Burton to take his rightful place in the forward line. The are 2 reasons Stevens played in the forward line against the Doggies

1) Burton was out and we needed another marking option in the attack and he was the best man for the job
2) There was no need to play 3 tall defenders against Bulldogs ie there was not a match up for him in defence.

So by playing one of the ruckman on their resting ruckman is just wearing them out and taking away the flexibility of options from our team.

We could both use that line!

Agreed, if Burton indeed comes up and does play as a permanent forward then one of our tall forwards has to go, Stevens being the obvious choice. However, if Burton starts on the bench or plays further up the ground then I see no reason to change. What would Port like least?

And I don't see how letting one of our ruckman drop back on Lade is reducing our flexibility. Surely it is freeing someone up who would otherwise be camped deep in defence?

So you are basically expecting our ruckman to play just about a while game each?!

Lade rests in the forward pocket and once Brogan needs a breather he is either send to a FB or the bench and Lad thrown into the ruck. Surely you can see how demanding this would be for our ruckmen who aren't exactly aerobic freaks to start off with.

As a defender in this side you are expected to rebound and create run fom defence. No problems. BUT if you have a ruckman "resting" in the BP on Lade/Brogan, you aren't exactly giveing them rest. You are expecting them to be defensive and blanket their opponent and then create rebound from 50. If we go they way you are suggesting I reckon Port would think its christmas time. Seriously, our 2 ruckmen would be spent by half time in this scenario.

And Burton will not start on the bench or further up the field. He is our only real X factor up forward and I very much doubt Craig will use him up the field or get him rotting on the bench while we are in desperate need of goal kicking options on what will be a very demanding day for our forwards.

Play him back, forward or sideways but just label him "Never to stand Lucas again". Has towelled him up 2 years in a row.

Was that the best game he has played?

Yes - He did play a fantastic game in defence for the swans a few years back vs. Port on Tredrea (Swans final 2002)

Do you think we will ever see another performance like that from him?

Yes - he is set now

Back to the back lines this week?

Depends on match ups and Brett Burton

Agree

Have some faith in the slow one

No, Lade only spends about 70% of the time on the field which includes the time he spends up forward. I remember in 97-98 what a bonus it was that Pittman could play in defence. It basically robbed the opposition of an attcking option when they played against us.

I hope Burton is able to start and play the majority of the game but Craig may wish to introduce him after a bit of the initial sting has gone out of the game.

As long as Scotty Lucas isn't involed, he'll play well...
Expect to see him up foward this week, just hope it pays off...
