Hey all,

Not a Pies supporter myself, but the missus, and one of my kids is. Anyway, was wondering what's happening with Sean Rusling. I know he required surgery earlier in the season (pre-season, I think) but I do remember Collingwood stating that he'd be back around Round 10.

So, anyone have an update? Would've been very handy with the absence of Rocca currently... not that you needed it on Saturday. :)

Rus was at Club Night on Thursday. Said he is dying to play. His surgeon has cleared him for contact work and he should be playing (at Willy) in about 3 or 4 weeks.

It's going to be interesting to see him work his way back in as nobody is finding it easy to be a walk up start this year.

My wish is that he stays fit and healthy as we have not had a chance to see what a talent he really is.

I think he'll be a player. If not as a KPP, then as a very good third marking option behind Rocca and Cloke. Has great hands and before he got hurt, I was thinking of picking him for my DT. Do you reckon the fast-tracked development of Travis Cloke will prevent you from seeing the best of him?

He might end up being trade bait.
No doubt he is a talent, but we are hardly short of young kpp players.

If we cam use him as part of a deal to get a ruckman or a quick midfielder then i say we use him.

I agree

Would be very surprised if he was trade bait.

They really went out of their way to recruit him and keep him tucked away in the SANFL.

Surely wouldn't give up on him after two seasons.

There is always one player who continually gets injured and I can't see this changing with Rusling. Just bad luck really, he hasn't had the chance to develop his game further. I really can't see where he will slot in at this stage.

Got to give him a go.Unfortunate with injuries,he would have come in handy with Rocca out,but see what happens,a few months ago the papers were touting him as the great white hope for the pies, and now some want to trade him.
Got to give him at least another season or two.Rusling has got potential,Dawes and reid are still very young and will take time to develop.

He is a bit of the forgotten Magpie, due to the amount of injuries he has indured. He is a player that when fit would be a great assest to our side. He looks as though he could play up the ground, as a wing/half back. I wonder whether they will play him up forward when he gets back into the side?

I think he is a player that needs space in the forward line to be productive, similar to Medhurst or Mark Williams from Hawthorn, because like Williams, his greatest assest is his speed. It will be interesting to see how both of them slot back into their respective sides surrounded by powerful big forwards.

100% correct, and my answer to your question would be "poorly", unless he learns to play on the wing.
