So are they keeping the 8 tickets per transaction thing? What a joke.

From smh.com.au

The furious promoters of next year's sold-out U2 tour have watched in frustration as scalpers sell tickets at almost seven times their face value.

The 70,000 tickets for the Sydney concert at Telstra Stadium went on sale yesterday and sold out in one hour, with fans allowed to purchase eight tickets at a time.

"We think it's despicable that people have bought tickets with the explicit intent to resell them at inflated prices," said Fiona Lakin from Michael Coppel Presents, the company promoting the concert. "We strongly encourage people not to purchase or support these [tickets]."

This morning, eBay Australia had dozens of auctions for the concerts, with one U2 fan paying $810 for two $59 general admission tickets.

In another auction, an enthusiast parted with $1375 for four general admission tickets.

Many more auctions were in progress with an average price of between $200 and $300 for a general admission ticket.

eBay Australia could not be reached for comment this morning.

The auction prices were too rich for Linda van Esch, who went as high as $500 for two tickets before she stopped bidding.

"I don't think it's fair at all that people were allowed to purchase a large volume of tickets at once - I think it should be capped at two per person or per internet entry, giving others the chance to also purchase and not get caught in bidding fights," she said in an email statement. "But what do you do?"

The terms of sale for the concert tickets state they may not be resold, but it is unclear how the promoters would enforce this rule.

Michael Coppel Presents has announced one extra concert in Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland will go on sale on Monday, December 12, at 9am local time.

Despite the scalping problem, fans will again be allowed to buy eight tickets at a time.

Ticketmaster recently sold the best tickets for the United States tour of band Coldplay via an online auction to stop scalping, with fans complaining this priced many out of the market.

The NSW Office of Fair Trading has said it will introduce laws to stop profiteering on ticket resales.
