When Matthew Egan is fit and ready to return, who will the Cats drop to make way for him? Rooke came in for Egan in the finals, but a fit Rooke is a certain selection. Josh Hunt? I believe Josh Hunt came of age in the GF. Keeping Ebert goalless is no mean feat.

At least we should have the luxury of giving Egan as much time as needed to get back to 100% fitness.

Thoughts?

I assume this is a rhetorical question but I'll answer it anyway - Shannon Byrnes

Assuming Rooke is 100% fit, and Wojinski is in form, I'd say Hunt and Mackie are competing for a spot down back, and Byrnes is competing for a spot with a both potential forward/midfield rotators as well as these backs/midfield rotators.

Ebert shanked three easy shots on goal. The Hunt we saw good, but hardly came of age - it was the same old Angry Face, crash through packs, pinpoint every pass approach.

And yeah, Byrnes or Woja.

Egan for Byrnes.

Byrnes is pretty dispensable. We've got a glut of on-ballers who could potentially rotate up forward if needed.

The later part of the season IMO has made Mackie a lock, and while I think Hunt has still got a fair way to go, he's a long way ahead of Johnson or any other 'on the fringe' backline potentials.

why on earth would you take wojak out of this side? geelongs been waiting for a player with a dash like this for years, he is an absolute excitement machine and loves to take on the opposition and take a few bounces....

Agree with you Mooney, the people stating to take him out of the side need to look at the rotations first. Wojak adds pace and the ability to break packs in the backline, which means they have to match him up with a similar player.

This allows Mackie to take a lesser opponent or even Milburn to take one of the smaller players so he can dominate and float as he does.

Egan could come in for Byrnes, and even though they aren't the same position types, Byrnes is easily the first dropped in this lot. The rotation would probably bring Kelly up to the wing to take Byrnes' spot, and Hunt would move to the bench.

Just answering a question.

Byrnes is not just the obvious one....he IS the one.
its not just u, its everyone. as soon as someone raises a question about selection then everyone gets on his back and says he should be dropped.

he isnt as bad as ppl make him out to be. by reading what ppl say on big footy u would think a chick could do better, but really he is not that bad!

I wouldn't go so far as to say a "chick could go better" but having said that I would mind seeing him go one-on-one against a woman either..

He is was clearly the 22nd man in last years grand final. Good luck to him, he has one more premiership medal than me and most others. I have watched him a lot and I have never rated him and probably never will. Doesn't mean I don't like him; he may be the nicest bloke you are ever likely to meet. But I just don't reckon he is very good footballer. Sort of like Mark Blake....ah but that's for another time.

i agree that he was the 22nd man in the premiership team, but that means he was the 22nd player out of 44 on the list (exept for egan who was injured).

and alot of ppl are not as fair to him as u seem to be. they just bag him no matter what, and their minds have been made up on him completely, even if he plays well. i reckon if he won a brownlow next year ppl would still bag him. im not saying he will, cos he has no chance, but if he did he still wouldnt have respect of cats fans on big footy.

Ok im never attacking the man Im attacking the football skills of a player at our club, Shannon has poor ball skill's when put under pressure we have all seen this, but IMO he dosnt use his natural skill's (Running very ****ing fast) enough, I dont mind him but i have often felt like the rest of the team carries his poor ball skill's a fair amount of the time.

Just doesn't finish off his good work enough. Like the beautiful spin move that he put on in the second qtr of the GF only to be run down because he ducked onto his right foot (and was certainly never going to kick it with his right). General field kicking is usually pretty good it's just when he steps inside 50 the jitters come.

If he can get some confidence when in range and if Trav can learn to run and carry and get front & square then we'll be better off next year.
