March 1st they begin construction.

Three medium sized building which will become quite prominant- The New Hills HQ, they announced all interstate operations will be moved to Adelaide. Although they will only take up 3 floors, lol.

All very exciting stuff and long overdue.

Just wanted to clarify a couple of things though with the Hills HQ on King William St. It won't be complete in 2008, currently scheduled for Sept 2009.

Also, Hills will only occupy about 1/4 of the building with the rest going on the open market for lease.

I'm guessing we have some people from SkyScraperCity here then. I go along and have a browse every now and then to keep up with whats going on.

There's also the NewPort Quays contruction going on at the moment with 7 and 12 story apartment complexes going up on the Port River as well as the new bridge.

Best thing to happen to the Port. Hopefully they keep on building an redoing the area, because boy does it need it.

The area isn't really as bad as people make them out to be espeically when you compare it the North and areas of the South. You have your bad suburbs like every area (Taperoo, Osborne, Rosewater Ottaway being the worst) but there are some pretty nice little suburbs in and around the place. I think the Port itself needs a major face lift (which will happen now with the diversion of heavy vehicles out of the Port), but suburbs like Largs, Semmy, Peterhead etc are nice little suburbs.

I lived at North Haven for a couple of years. That place if gun.

I drove past the Port redevelopement the other day, it really is quite ugly around there. The factories and warehouses look very ugly. Its strange seeing the cranes and new buildings going up right next to these places.

The main street of Port Adelaide literally looks like a ghost town. Hopefully that will change also.

Yeah North Haven is great, pretty tucked away from everything though.

I agree that the surrounding areas of the redevelopment near the Glanville and Exeter train stations really need to be brought up to scratch if they want to drive prices up. The warehouses at Birkenhead on the dock will be knocked down for stage three and from what I've heard there will be a new shopping complex with Harvey Norman and the likes put in somewhere.

As I said in my previous post the Port itself will pick up once the bridge is finished and all those heavy semi trailers are re-routed from the expressway over the bridge bypassing the Port. Business will pick up because there won't be any pollution and heavy traffic effecting business. That's the plan.

Its the dame with newcastle.

Everything is boarded up main street port adelaide style.

Im predicting big things there in the future as well.

Was going to create a thread on the Port Board but it seems I can no longer make threads. haha.

Anyway I found this GEM of a video. 1972 Port vs North at Adelaide Oval. Great Vid

Hope you mean the port area because the rest around there is swinging.

Lake Macquarie would have to be one of the best waterways in the land.

Looks like Adelaide will actually get a building that is more than 5 storeys high, congrats on that achievement:thumbsu:

hahaha. If Melbourne is so great why can't they run an event without it losing money?

Victoria is responsible for the death of the F1's. to which we will probably never ever see the return of them.

Went from a premier race to an absolute rabble.

Well done.

Personally I hope it goes it is nothing more than a rubbish event and not exciting at all.

It is not the event that is not exciting. It is the setup. Went in 2006 and catering and entertainment was shite. Crap location (AP) and no atmosphere. 1 small crapy pub on exit of the track and everyone just vanishes. In Adelaide, like we do now for the Clipsal, enter the city on exit of the track. Roads are all blocked off and it becomes a massive entertainment area. Bands, Food, Wine, Beer and Women or stay at the track for some decent bands. 2 sets of RAAF Jet displays instead of the 1 for your International event. More entertainment trackside. More food and drink options. Melbourne has these posh food trailers and only sells fosters. Expensive and choices are limited. Bands are always very bad.

All in all a poorly run event. Try hard like with little thought put into it and in a shite location. Quite sad for F1 really.

Adelaide should bid for it. At least give it a crack.

Because lets be honest, who actually cares about the V8's. I watch for the noise, too see who wins and then have an awesome time with the bands. The atmosphere is exellent.

The F1's would be equal if not better. And we could also keep the V8's. It may cost an arm and a leg. But it will create more exposure then the MILLIONS we already spend on tourism. Not to mention it will show our name around the world. Immigrants will finally know what Adelaide looks like when they see a brouchure for Australian Immigration.

And if we have to Race it at night, so be it. It will still be Awesome! And it means more people be watching our fantastic event.

Give it a crack I say.

The upgrade to the Crows future ground is in the pipeline (I can only dream :thumbsu:)

Looks great, and if it doesn't score an AFL game after its done up, well then I am going to firebomb the SANFL headquaters.
