Gee I wonder why no club would give him a chance?
Maybe his defeatest attitude?

If it's true it shows why no club picked him up, and that is willingness to work hard despite setbacks.

There are a large amount of top AFL players who weren't drafted first time yet worked their arses off and got on a list after that initial rejection.

Sam Mitchell, Nick Maxwell, Harry O'Brien, Harry Taylor, Brad Sewell are just a few that come to mind, and with the rookie system the way it is now, you just shouldn't give up on your dream of playing AFL because of one year's rejection.

If true, I hope he changes his mind and comes back and grows some balls.

LOL at the media beat up surrounding Serhat in the first place.

He was never going to be drafted in the ND - he had a slim chance of being drafted in the RD however he had only 2 clubs show genuine interest.

I think he now just wants to get on with his life and concentrate on working and making money - he doesn't want to pursue a career in football anymore.

I just hate hearing about young blokes with a defeatest attitude.

Supposedly he sulked earlier in the year when Calder tried to turn him into a defender because he didn't like being out of the action and wanted to kick goals. Sounds like a bit of a sook who always wants to be the star to me.

There was a lot of hype about him, and every bit of it was warranted. His finals series was terrific.

Yeah, he's got some faults in his game and it is why he was never drafted. A strong character would go away and be determined to improve and prove a point. And to be honest, if he has given footy away that's a shame cos I'd have loved to see whether he was capable of improving and seeing how much impact he would have at VFL level.

If true it potentially gives us an insight, from a purely footy perspective, into why he was avoided in all drafts and gives credence to those casting doubts about him and why he wasn't drafted.

However looking at the overall scheme of things, I wouldn't go so far as to casting aspersions about his character and attitude.

Perhaps he has decided that other career options will benefit him more in life.

Doing the Sam Mitchell, Harry Taylor etc VFL/SANFL/WAFL thing isn't always an option for some people. It is a huge commitment that some people, whether monetarily, geographically etc, can't commit to.

Some people, believe it or not play footy for fun and it isn't their everything. Who's to say Serhat wasn't just playing with his mates and/or simply playing at the highest level he could?

Well if has Sulked before about something it would explain why he was Not Drafted as he only wants what he wants and nothing else,

Teams don't like that

Gotta love the implicit assumption in all these posts that a footballing career is the absolute nadir of human achievement. He tried, he didn't make it, he gave it away...so what? He's 'defeatist'? Maybe he just decided there's other things he'd rather do with his life? It's hardly unusual at age 18 to finish school, emerge into the real world and decide the stuff you'd been thinking of doing as a teenager wasn't actually the stuff you wanted to do as an adult.

Presume you mean zenith (nadir is the lowest point) but other than that couldn't agree more. If one path doesn't work for you, try another. There's lots of paths.

That's fair enough.

But let's say he was drafted and was stuck playing VFL reserves as an AFL listed player, would he lose passion for the game in June and want to give it away then and there?

I doubt we'll see many better marking forwards in the TAC Cup than this bloke was in 2009, just a shame we won't get to see whether he could do the same in a senior team.

I'm sure there will be some suburban club out there with pocketfuls of money, looking for a forward to build their team around that he'll fit into and he'll be very competent at that level.

Surely the difference is that in your scenario he's on a list, only one step (perhaps one injury) from a senior game. In the present scenario he's not - he's a million miles away. And going to a suburban club is hardly the end either, Ben Johnson played plenty of suburban football the last few years (for example).

But all that again is based on an assumption - that he gave it away because it's too hard. Maybe he wasn't that keen on getting drafted, or got into a really good Uni course, or whatever. We don't know.

any news on him? i had a chat to him not long after the draft felt sorry for him but i mean jeez i think he needs to stop sooking and give it another crack sure he may think its over but comeon its not over just have a look at the players taken over him the draft plenty or 'workhorse' stories

According to Inside Football, is currently training with Bendigo (no mention of whether he's signed or not).
Sorry, no link.

According to the Bendigo Bombers website, he has signed on with them.

It will be hard for him to get a game with no Bendigo reserves in the VFL, he will have to wait for a few injuries to Essendon listed players.

I think Bendigo do have a Reserve Side but I think they get flogged by 100+ pts each week
