If this kid was playing for West Coast, we wouldnt see him for 3 years and he would then burst onto the scene fully toned.

Unfortunantly at Richmond, our youngsters have to be fast-tracked.

The kid is full of promise but really needs to live in the gym over the next 12 months. I have noticed that he currently doesnt have the strength to break tackles (and thus gets pinged holding the ball a lot) and doesnt have the strength to hold tackles - these 2 deficiencies need to be improved next year as they are very important skills.

As to breaking tackles, he could do a lot worse than using Foley as a role model - Foley's ability to fend off tackles by use of his arms is magnificant.

You're dead right! Especially impressive given that he's got pretty short arms too.

he has the natural evasiveness; not to break the tackle; but to avoid it in the first place.... when he does gain more upper body strength, to break them; he will be simply untackleable. if there is such a word.

Edwards, as with most of the richmond youngsters should be on a drip in the pre season, feeding them protein and living, eating, sleeping in the gym. Edwards is still a very young kid and give him a few pre seasons and he'll come good.

foley or hyde should show him how to evade tackles and then maybe get someone else to show him what to do after evading 3 or 4 tackls within 10 m and running around in circle because theres noone up forward.

Good point but we dont have that luxuary.

Ok now lets pretend Tambling played his first game against freo after doing a West Coast type apprenticeship, what would be the response on here????

I'd say there would be about 20 threads on him and how great he is going to be etc.... etc..... how old is tambling 20.

I think Edwards will be were Tambling is right now in three years time

He's a good kid, you'll see. Got good pace and amazing tackler for his size, very high tackle count and has excellent 2nd and 3rd efforts. Skinny as hell but with some gym work he will really improve. He does pretty darned well for his size, very Dale Thomas type of player but quicker, perhaps tho lacks the true brains with decision making and can often get himself caught, despite his pace.

Can see him becoming a textbook hard running quick wingman who slots a few goals a game, def going to be a keeper.

He reminds me of Rodan the way he gets caught when trying to evade tackles and his decision making needs some work but I love his pace and the way he tries so hard.I am sure these other aspects will improve over time.

He just needs some experience and strength and will become a good player for us in years to come...

The kid could always be a dead ringer for the 'Scarecrow' from the Wizard of Oz.

On a serious note, I hope the kid blossoms. But I am struggling to see what the RFC sees in him.

YOU ARE A CRAP PERSON.

he gets a game because he takes the opposition on!!! has a go, not like a couple of the people wearing yellow & black at the moment.

No....I'm being honest mate.....just tell me why he gets a game?

Well your honesty all ways comes across as negative and bitter. Understandable as a tiger fan.

I've seen plenty in Edwards. For a 18 year old kid who is nowhere near the required weight to play footy he has been exciting. Taking players on at all cost, got around Mcleod which was brilliant. Kicked some good goals on Sunday and has put himself into positions to kick goals after long runs. Needs a bigger fitness base. That clever little handball to Krakouer against essendon to set him up for goal. And best of all loves to tackle.

Why does he get a game. Pretty much because there is no one else. As the first poster said west coast would put him in the cupboard for two years then he would come out and the whole league would be whoa. We dont have that luxury.

He wont ever be a no.1 midfielder but at 3 or 4 he is a very exciting prospect.

A little different from rodan. He runs forward instead of circles when he gets in trouble. Better evasive skills too.

Before I tell you to nick off back to the "girly thread you created for all the happy, happy skirt wearing supporters", I wanted to see what people
could see in a guy who gets a game, who's all skin and bones (and awkward with it!) takes on guys when there is no need to, frigs around with the ball, splays it and gets a game over better, more developed players who are running around in the 2's.

I wanted some feedback, and all I got was you, you big thread-promoting-fluffy-flower-poster.

I might be a crap person, but it's not an unwashable aroma I can't get rid of like yourself....
(and go tell your crappy local football stories somewhere else - who cares?)

Get lost 'dipstick nick':

Edwards IMO has been in the best 22 at richmond the last couple of weeks, for an 18 year old you couldnt really ask that much more from the kid, thats just finding his feet in the AFL.

He's in the best 22 cause he's in the 22 !!!
Harder to get in than it is to get out methinks....

Needs a bigger fitness base.

Nope, his fitness is outstanding. Better than Dean Polo at same age imo.

Can everyone stop talking about his speed? He has medium paced leg speed but loves to run. Elite evasion skills. Medium kick, not penetrating, but brilliant with his hands. At Coburg he really impressed me but I'm with deliberate on this one, he has not been performing at AFL level these past few weeks and should be dropped to bring in another youngster (like Casserly for example, he'll be injury-free by next round).

Edwards is a special player but he just isn't ready to play every game atm, only cameo appearances every couple of months. He needs to really work on learning when NOT to run to a contest and he can't do this with 50% TOG in the AFL, he needs to develop his game at Coburg.

I hope he plays about 4 more AFL games this year and dominates during the finals. His aim should be to increase his possession rate (never been a high ball winner).

When drafted they said he'd be a good 10-15th best player on an AFL list when he has matured. He is 18 and isn't there yet. ;)

Hyde couldn't evade a tackle from a statue. What are you smoking, man!

Spot on Benny......I know he likes to evade guys....but you're right Benny, he isn't lightning.....he gives the impression he's quick.
Too much taking on guys will get him in all sorts of trouble.....there's always someone to run you down in AFL......look at the times Rainsy's been bailed up and trapped. Taking on blokes all the time is wrongly over-rated today AND dangerous.

god knows why the tigers are recuiting an army of lightly built fp's. I cant see the club go anywhere until it culls some of those blokes. they are hardly going to win games off their own boot or bust through the packs. they aleady drafted tambling and didnt learn their lesson by drafting yet another one.

drop him and bring in who......krak :o

edwards has plenty of heart and is having a crack, i didnt like the pickup because he is a luxury type of player when we still have lots of holes to fill on the list but at the moment he is doing well

needs size asap, if he stays the way he is all he ever will be is a goal sneak when we need him around the footy at all times

people say it takes time i agree but our fitness staff are pathetic so its not a done deal that in 3 years he will be ready

look at meyer :o
