is an absolute shocking kick of the football. for a skinny player of his size and type you have to ask will he make the grade with this deficiency.
oh and i dont think him terribly quick either.

Yup, all over it claws. His kicking is very ordinary, and given our surplus of players on the list with this trait, we should look to trade him. He still has some currency, and if we managed to secure a 24-27 yr old ruckman in exchange we would come out on top. With Simmonds soon retiring, Pattison and Graham being duds, we really are desperate for a stop gap measure before our young ruckman can take the mantle.

WHAT THE ****!

You clearly know **** all!

Edwards is coming into his 3rd year. He has runs on the board and looks to have huge potential. He isn't the best of kicks but he has shown enough to suggest that he can improved this trait. I bet your one of the guys who serioulsy think Daniel Conners is better then Edwards. There is a reason Edwards has played 30 odd games of football. I would look to trade about three quaters of the list before I would even look at Edwards

edwards has always been one of wallace's favorites, but his kicking hasnt improved much over the past few years, even when he is under no pressure he still misses the target. if he had the pace then he might be good for the forward pocket role, but he dont seem to have the speed to burst free.

think its time to try someone else.

Huge potential is what Cotchin has, not Edwards. You are pumping him up far too much. How has he shown he can improve this trait? What a bullshit thing to say. Fact is we have far too many players that are not good kicks, and it will cost us games of football.

In order to get something good in the trade period you have to trade away something of decent currency, which Edwards still has. Who would you look to trade off? Pettifer? JON? Jackson? Edwards does not fill a need and he does not offer something to the side that other players can't do better.

So by the same logic, any top 30 draft pick midfielder that isn't a gun by the end of there third year should be traded.

Your logic assumes that there is no room for improvement in any player.

"...he does not offer something to the side that other players can't do better"

That is one of the stupidist things I have ever heard. It suggests that unless a player has peaked by his second year he should be traded. It suggests that - because Johnson is a better player then Edwards, he should get a spot on this before him. However everyone knows that Edwards is a much better prospect for the future.

Not everyone is a Trent Cotchin or a Brett Deledio chief

That logic would certainly be flawed, but it is not my logic. Why I advocate trading Edwards is simply because his kicking skills are not good enough. If Richmond's list didn't have so many of players with poor kicking skills, then we could accommodate him. However as most people recognise, we have plenty. Players can improve (as will Edwards) their game through physical development and their mental capacity to push on and work hard, but I haven't seen many examples of players developing footy smarts or above average kicking skills. He might improve his decision making to a degree, but his poor kick of the footy will burn us, as it has in the past, and will continue to do if we have too many players with poor kicking skills.

However he is still a pretty handy player, and has currency. Therefore we could get something good in return to further plug the holes in our list. My pointing out that, "...he does not offer something to the side that other players can't do better", highlights that structurally, our list would not be weakened if Edwards was moved on.

I'd prefer to see Edwards played in bursts on a wing or through the midfield, any counterattacks out of defence rely on an accurate kick and he doesn't kick well. However, he's got good flair and side stepping ability, so let him play in the middle where he can win the ball and then bomb it into the 50.

agree wholeheartedly. i will go even farther and say what will happen.

the club instead of looking at his deficiencies and what is the norm in fixing them which is in the main stuff all will hang onto edwards in hope. in another 3 yrs he will have been on the list 7 yrs and we will have another krakouer tivenfail or schulz etc etc etc etc etc etc on our hands.will we ever learn will the supporters ever learn.

shane edwards, a skinny undersized mid who is unlikely to bulk up much at all.. poor kicking skills, slow for his type and size, all this dictates he will play mainly outside. at what club do you find skinny slow unskilled outside footballers.the answer only at richmond. which club is the only club that regularly utilises early draft picks on such deficient types you guessed it richmond.

edwards is a player we should look to trade as there are 3 or 4 players in front of him for the same position...Collins and Nahas within minutes have also just passed him and a fit connors would be perferred in a midfield role...Ive said it many times , there is no place in a senior side for Tambling, white, nahas and edwards all playing, simply too many little guys...there's no precedent for it outside of Tw mindset

I doubt many clubs would want a skinny, small, slow and poorly skilled player.

I just don't think he is going to be able to cut it. He is too small and his skill lets him down so much which is so disappointing.
