Does anyone else think that he should be playing more reguarly?
Can someone tell me what number he was picked up in the draft . .

Harvey was taken as the Bombers 1st pick in the 2001 National Draft (#18 overall). It was the same year we got Joel Reynolds & Andrew Welsh, but he's the only one who's struggled to get games in the seniors.

I believe he will be a decent player in the AFL, but I think the club is grooming him as a midfielder who floats forward, while he would make a brilliant permanant small forward.

He has been killing at VFL level, but just doesn't get a fair go at AFL level.

Mongrelpunt I pray that you actually haven't been to a VFL game, because if you have, you would see a guy who believes he is better than he is, isn;t working hard enough and needs to get back to basics. He has no left foot.

However, as a long term prospect he looks good but he needs to:
1) Stop taking on the opposition in the backline
2)Start getting the ball when the team needs him to
3)Stop believing he is his brother
4) Get a right foot
5) bulk up so more - no doubtr another pre-season will be crucial for this

Doing this he will become a star for us like his brother - pity he thinks he already is.

Probably didn't help with his dad coming out and saying he is a better footballer than Brent.........Imagine if he actually is though!

Yeah that's the impression i get too. But i still would like to see him get more of a run, i he was brilliant vs the dogs - he surely can't be stuck in the 2v2's for lack of ability.

I'd love to see him rotating through the midfield with Cory, Bullen and Rama when he's back - there's our worries about pace gone right there.

Anyone know if he's happy at Essendon, or wants to join his brother at the Roos ?

I'd be very surprised if any player would leave Essendon to play for one of the cash strapped clubs. I like Harvey, reckon he'll be a good player in a year or two.

Yeah

Yeah Harvs is a pretty good player indeed.
I'm sure we'll be seeing him play another game or 2 this year,
but I think Welsh and McPhee have made a bigger impact...
well,I'm guessing that's because they have played more games?!
:P

What foot does he kick with?

Ok you got me, I meant to say left foot. And it is terrible.

By the by, he was disappointed not to go to the Roos as he said so, however it was his brother who got him on the straight and narrow and told him he was lucky to be drafted by such a great club and he should be thankful.

I think he fits in to Essendon very well, and long term, I am very confident he will be a very good player for us, but he just has to iron out his flaws and he will be a regular guaranteed.

cunning move by harvey! opponents won't have any idea: "he's gonna turn onto his left foot" one will say, "nah he'll turn onto his right foot" the other will shout back. The two will get into an argument, meanwhile young harves is sprinting in to an open goal! He'll probably have to handball to Lloydy when he gets there though.

Trade Bait??

We'll (Nth Melb) gladly take him off your hands if you're not happy with him. How does Shane Clayton for Shane Harvey - straight swap sound like? Any takers?

Before you knock him back - 100 game player, premiership player and has another 7-8 yrs left in him.

Don't suppose Brent would want to join his brother down at Bomberland:p How about Henneman for Harvey?;)

It would be better if Brent wanted to join his brother at the Dons.:D

In the VFL on the weekend, Shane Harvey got totally tagged out of the game by Tim Clarke. Outplayed royally.
That should be an indication that Harvey is not ready.

Now I know that brother are always different, but it took Brent I think at least 3 years to start having a major impact at the Roos.

I think it was certainly more Denis style at North to groom the youngsters over a few years. Shane is also very small, and I think the small, less developed players take longer to be ready to step up.
