Shane Harvey was our first round pick in 2001. What a waste. He showed promise in the horror game against Freo - where he kicked three goals. Players selected after Harvey include Paul Medhurst, Campbell Brown, Sam Mitchell, David Rodan, Leigh Montagna and the Schneiferman - imagine one of them in red and black!
So Harvs now wants to be Roo - not enough opportunities at Essendon. Andrew Welsh was in your year and look now - a key member of the squad. So much for no opportunities. In 2003 a depleted midfield - no Caracella, Blumfield or Heffernan. No opportunities eh? Further Moorcroft a crumber sent off to Sandy - forward pocket no opportunities eh?
The reality is the loss of Shane Harvey won't hurt us. Pagan is right - Sheeds doesn't give away many that go on to become something.
I recall when Anthony Rocca wanted to play at Collingwood he was called everything under the sun. From Mommy's boy to sook etc... Is Shane doing anything different to Anthony? I guess because he's not Italian and living 800km away he's not a Mommy's boy although he really wants play with Brent. Ditto Jade Rawlings and Brady!
I wish Shane all the best - I hope he does play senior footy at North, however I would not be surprised to see him in the starting XVIII at either West Preston or Reservoir in the next few years.
