with the dockers looking to stock up on key position players both back and forward in the at least this upcoming draft, i just wanted to know if anyone could give me a bit of info on Kersten? some have said that he may not have the size to be a kpp but the same was said about jack darling at about this time last year as well and he seems to being going good. im guessing that Kersten is injured seeing that he didnt play in WA's recent loss to vic country. anyway any info on Kersten would be much appreciated or even if anyone has any footage of him that would be fantastic. thanks

Hey George, I've moved this thread into the Draft Watch sub-forum because it is a player specific topic. I'm sure more people will be interested in Kersten closer to the draft too, so it will be good having a topic on him here.

First of all, Kersten is missing the Championships because of I believe a shoulder injury. Which is a shame, because he outperformed Darling last year for WA. And he even played league football for South Fremantle last year.

I'm a big wrap for Kersten, and I would still have him on the brink of the first round despite the injury. He is very similar to Darling in size, and also has a good set of hands on him. But I think Kersten is a better kick and also far more athletically gifted. He featured in the top 10 of both sprint tests at the draft combine last year when trying out for GWS. No doubt size will be the sticking point with him, but he isn't limited to playing out of the goal square so it wouldn't bother me if I were a recruiter.

Here is his draft profile from last year, and there is a 2 minute video of him at the top.

thanks a lot for that chris. he definately seems to have a bit more athleticism than darling but he doesnt seem to be as much of an imposing figure as jack darling is. do you think he would be a chance to go to the dockers? and would he be pne that the dockers would be looking at? he definately looks the goods and someone that would suit our teams needs at the moment looks very exciting

George , as Chris said, Kersten has a beautiful pair of hands and is a long kick. I've seen him roost it from outside the 50 metre mark at Freo Oval and have it sail through half post height, easily a 60 metre kick when on song. Very technically correct in his approach to goal.

A better kick than Darling imo, and certainly had a better carnival than him last year.

I really hope we look at him closely as he has that something special about him.

I saw a mock draft on another forum and Kersten was listed as 193cm now, so it appears he has grown from last year. Getting to a good size now. Quite a solid unit too so could have an impact from day 1.

What is most important for Freo? Key forward or key back?

Fraser McInnes was injured this champs, but he probably would of been a first round draft choice if fit. 197cm key back.
