So we kicked 16.4 on the weekend- 80%. Best ever result by Port Adelaide in the AFL. Well done lads.

This after kicking 18.7 last week and in round 5 (72%)

Given that we've endured scorelines of 5.13 (27%) and 8.17 (32%) this year we fans were owed some goals.

In all seriousness, I'm baffled by these massive swings in our accuracy at kicking for goal. I know that tired legs will shank more often then not and Brisbane and Richmond were good at keeping us under pressure. So do we fire Tyson Edwards or give him a pay rise? Let's see how we go in the second half of the year.

In general our kicking actions are pretty good.

It seems like lots of our players struggle with the mental side when it's a goal that needs to be kicked when we're behind.

Wingard, Boak and Ebert are the only players I have confidence in for clutch situations

I guess that's why they are so good. mental strength can't be taught

Am prepared for 10.22 this Friday night. :(

The law of averages will not be denied.

This is why I was not as concerned by the bad weeks (Brisbane/Richmond) as some of the ridiculous comments on here would have us believe. We had a dominant periods against both teams but kicked terribly, sapping the energy and confidence of the whole team. Turning half those points into goals creates pressure, creates confidence, then as was seen against the Bulldogs, you get a run on, kick 6 goals straight and win easily. Same as with against Melbourne. We had the run and we put on scoreboard pressure by kicking 6 straight in 10 minutes. I strongly believe this was all that was missing from winning both those game and us being 7-3. Yes it is bad football to do this, but it doesn't mean a bad team, not worthy of top 4 talks. To much is made of loses by fans. Does Freo's loss to Richmond now mean they aren't premiership favourites? Talk on the Sunday Footy show sure seemed like that was the case. "Where are Fremantle's goals going to come from?" was Lloys question. Really Lloyd!?!? Richmond kick goals from everywhere on the night, something that Leigh Matthews said they would find difficult to do again in a hurry.

To many people like to jump at shadows after losses and even wins. The gameplan is wrong, sack Ken, we have no heart. Bollocks! Goal kicking is almost the sole reason we both won and lost in the last month, because the talent and effort was the same, just the rewards were to polar opposite.

Structures and gameplan don't win games. Scoring more than the opposition does. And we all know 6 is more than 1.

17.11
15.9
18.7
18.7
16.4

are our 5 winning scores this year. it does worry me that we cant win with say 15.15 (dont think we've hit 30 scoring shots yet).

There is one glaring omission IMO, and it isn't just you. It really rustles my jimmies.

The turn against Schulz this year is astounding. I guess he didn't kick our only goal in the first qtr against Melbourne after the siren from 50 out, a distance he usually struggles from. I guess he didn't kick 4 and 5 vs Hawthorn and North, in what turned out to be tight games.

Yep, he had bad days against Brisbane and Tigers, but carn, babies and bathwater folks.

Poor entries and poor structure were a large part of the poor conversion rate. The last couple of weeks we aren't trying to find the perfect pass to someone in the pocket or bang it in a 100 miles an hour. We've hit the happy medium of waiting for a good option or backing players to take a shot if they feel in range. The Wedt Coast and Richmond games were painfully noticeable for players Not being willing to kick from 40 or further out.

When Ryder is back, if we are smart enough to use him as a decoy forward when he's double or triple teamed instead of kicking to him, then our forward line should only get better.

Also, I think it would be nice to hear some praise on the most important part of the game. It is all good for Ken and other coaches to praise work rate and defensive effort, but how refreshing would it be to hear "The team kicked accurately for goal, which is really important to us and I'm really pleased about that" when it is applicable. We love to see it as fans, but sometimes you feel the professionals put it on the backburner.

I like when we kick the ball well an get it between the two big posts on the ground... but there is still room for improvement... 16.4 is good, but 20.0 is what we should be aiming for. I know sometimes a point for trying is nice, but Id rather us get full points for kicking to goal each and every time! How good would it be to kick like 200.0 for the rest of the season!!

I'm not sure what his stats are but Boak is just about the only player I trust with a set shot.

Also, Paul Stewart has been able to finish when it counted in the last few weeks. If he can back it up this week (pls don't get dropped) youse all better prepare for an appreciation thread.

That set shot goal against Melbourne at Adelaide Oval in 2011. We were desperate for a goal and he delivered a worm burner that went straight through the middle. His left footer from the boundary half way thru the 4th was also handy.

I'd have Schulz kicking for my life against North where he has a career total of 30.3, if it's West Coast (9.14) I might be asking another player, maybe Robbie Gray with 14.5.

I have been thinking a lot about our year so far and I blamed the players, coaching staff and even the gods for abandoning us and creating our misfortunes. To be honest our team is adjusting to the tactics of opposition clubs this year. Most teams have decided to take on the Sydney or Freo model.

Look at Brisbane, Collingwood, the Doggies, Essendon or even GWS games. Plenty of numbers around the ball, scrappy and an arm wrestle. If you consider Sydney, Freo, West Coast and Melbourne were always defensive this means that this style of play is more predominant than ever. If we look at all games the skills are down and the game is scrappy. Eventually all teams will get used to this style of play and maybe we will see a return to less fumbly games.

So far the impact of this has been an up and down season for lots of teams. The team that plays the best defensive game wins. Clog the midfield, get run on the outside and score from turnovers. It's a taxing game for both sides because you are fighting within such a confined space.

We have tinkered with our game-plan due to having to play Sydney or Freo every week. I was a little bit stressed because I thought that we spent a lot of energy trying to chip our way through other teams defensive set-up and played into the hands of a lot of teams.

lately we have played a bit smarter. We are also clogging up the middle, denying run and also trying to get some outside run. The one thing about these games is that they are games of attrition. It is even at first because everybody is playing in a confined space. The team that wins is the team that has the better skill. Because kick are so short, the team that keeps its composure and creates the least turnovers wins.

The reason why the accuracy goes down is that our forward line resembles an Auskick field. How many times have you watched the kids at half time and haven't seen much difference. We are now resorting to these negating tactics we also can chip it around if we have to. Our kicking skills are better that the majority of teams out there. When we get our game-plan together we will see the accuracy in our forward line increase
