John Nicholls quitting as Carlton coach 3 days before the start of the 1976 season, despite winning the 1972 flag in his first season as coach and missing the finals only once in 1974.

In a shocking political upheaval George Harris quit as Carlton president after the club's 1979 premiership year and captain-coach Alex Jesaulenko also walked out; Jezza declaring that he would not return as player or coach unless Harris returned as President. Harris then lost an election and Jezza went to St Kilda.

At the tigers Tony Jewell winning the flag in 1980 by a then record margin and then getting the sack just 12 months later when the tigers finished 7th but still won 13 games.

Tom Hafey getting sacked as Collingwood coach mid season in 1982 after top 3 finishes in all his completed seasons at the pies. Hafey did a magnificent job in 1977 when the pies went from bottom to top of the ladder in his first season and got the best out of the players.

Robert Walls deciding to stay on as Fitzroy coach after the 1985 season but then suddenly walking out and being appointed Carlton coach. At the same time Parkin getting sacked as Carlton coach despite flags in 81-82 and not missing the finals in the 5 years he was there.
