The next two weeks are an important celebration of Aboriginal culture.

Why aren’t we playing as Yalla-birr-ang? I believe this is the Wurundjeri name for Collingwood.

Other clubs change their name for this round as a mark of respect.

I would love to see this happen. What do you think?

Would be happy to. It's a symbolic gesture in recognition of the place where our club gets its name.
The name has only been recently re-discovered and not fully verified. I don't care either way, but it'd be a bit of a case of what white Australia thinks the local Aboriginals probably called part of the area of Collingwood.

Sure, but that's the game we play after having eradicated so much language.

And in this case, we'd be deciding what that language was based on 1 unverified claim in a white settler's journal.

If we do adopt a different name for these rounds, it shouldn't be us deciding on it - let the local Aboriginal leaders give us a name - unless they're Carlton supporters going with the word for "excrement" - which would be a good name for Carlton.

Agree wholeheartedly

Personally, No.

I don't think any sides should be honestly, its clunky and performative and creates imo a distraction from the real stories we are tying to tell. There is so much that needs to be discussed in this round especially around restorative justice for Aboriginal people and having the names change feels like its just an easy change that looks great but it is really bordering on shoving it down peoples throats. This is not how you bring people along.

I am progressive but I really think this is something that could be easily perceived as divisive. I don't think we have done the leg work as a country for this change to be appropriate right now. Especially when not all clubs do it and it doesn't make sense for all clubs.

One step at a time is how you run a marathon and thats what we are up against in Australia to fight against racism. This is rushing to the end for no gain and all pain.

This thread doesn't seem like a genuine question but rather troll bait or an excuse to start an argument. I'd like us to be grown up about things, and have adult conversations about important topics but, all I can see is this thread becomong emotionally driven and devolving into name calling and point scoring.

That was not my intention.

Haven't seen this at all

I disagree. I think if you re-read the comments you will find some very positive posts.

It hasn't happened in this thread yet, but do think it would happen if Collingwood did go with an Aboriginal name.
