Welcome buddy, Picked the right team. Look forward to your contribuions.

Welcome. But the poll is a bit weird. I think within 5 years might be a bit soon so would have went for 5-10 range, but after the within 5 years the next option is 10+ :p

Welcome mate.

Actually heading to Paramatta tomorrow for the Wanderers vs Victory game. Should we expect a nice warm welcome being Victory supporters?

Hey Dan Cooper, hope you have a good time at the game. While I'm not really a soccer fan, I dont mind WSW. However I don't like a lot of the fans. I live down the road from Parramatta Stadium and all I hear for hours after the game are drunk WSW fans walking around downstairs yelling and singing. And from personal experiences a lot of WSW fans can be pretty avid and a bit on the violent side lol.

I don't recommend wearing your jersey anywhere in Parra after the game if Victory wins lol might be a good way to head to a stabbing lol

Hope you have a good night thou.

Its not that bad out here.

Cheers mate

Thanks for your thoughts. We'll practice some knife defence tonight, and ensure we don't flaunt our Victory shirts around Parra.

Enjoy the forum :thumbsu:

Enjoyed the hospitality of the Royal Oak Hotel and their $10 steaks. Big police escort to the game, and took about 45 minutes to get from the pub to the ground, for what should have been a 15 minute walk. Bought home plenty of Sydney rain in our clothes. Thankfully the sun was shining here in Melbourne when we got home.

Haha mate I live in that big building called Entrada across the road from the Royal Oak. I was trying to fly a kite off the side of my balcony (was bored lol dont judge) and saw some chairs being thrown out of the Royal Oak and then people trying to jump over the fence. Was pretty crazy. Then saw the Riot cops rock up with what must have been half of the Parramatta police force. All the singing was good entertainment for the day. Except one line i heard come from the Pub "F*** West Sydney" lol that wasnt nice, thou im sure that wasnt you.

Anyways sorry your team didnt get up. Was a close game. I was hoping Victory would wipe the smirks off the WSW faces.

Hope that knife self defence practise paid off.

Hows it going Ebert80,

Um not a recent convert but havent been following for overly long. I lived in Victoria from June 2009 until July 2010 and to be honest had never even seen a game of AFL before that. And the only exposure Id ever had was seeing a heap of ads from when the Swans won the GF in I think it was 2005. But apart from that nothing. Just been following league and union.

Anyways I had a mate who was a very hardcore Saints fan and he dragged me to a few games. I found it hard to get into at first and had to throw a heap of bets on before a game to make it am bit more interesting. But after a while I really started to enjoy it. I just really wanted someone to barrack for. I didnt really feel like the Swans were the team for me so I started to cheer for the Tigers as I like Richmond in NSW and figured it would be close enough. I also had some good nights out in the Vic Richmond. However I heard that there was a new team in development and as soon as I heard that they were going to represent West Sydney I was sold and jumped on board with everything I had. Joined up as a founding member. And helped make history with this young but soon to be the best team in the AFL. Even got my name on the wall at GIANTS Stadium.

So to answer your question I've been following AFL for about five years now

We spent about 2 hrs in the Royal - leaving there at about 7pm with the rest of the march. I think there was a fight there or outside just before we got there and that may have increased the police presence. We sat inside and had a few beers and $10 steaks. The beer garden was a bit of an animal enclosure, but singing loudly was about as bad as it got. By the time it came to leave for the ground there were too many police & security to even count. Mass overkill.

Yea I know. Its like that every time theres a home game, police everywhere. And how good was the steak. Royal Oaks is my local. I go there all the time for dinner. I usually stick with the Sophie burger. One of the best burgers I've ever eaten at a pub. and the chips are amazing in my opinion.

Yea about 4pm there was a massive fight there. The two security guards didnt know what had happened. They would try and drag one person out of the pub and then 10 more would jump the fense to get in. It was crazy. The fights were going on for about fifteen minutes until the Riot cops (the ones in black) came.

Poor Parramatta can't really cope with the fans that rock up. Hopefully the A league moves the home games to Homebush. Bigger stadium that can fit even more fans. And Parramatta wont look as trashed the next day lol

The steak was great, particularly at the price, and the chips & salad were top notch too.

When we were at the pub there were plenty of local supporters wearing their shirts & scarves in there and not so much as a bad look was exchanged. Not that we saw anyway.

It was a good idea to have disposable plastic cups for drinks. If it does hit the fan the last thing you want is people getting cut.

Thanks for the sh_t weather too :)

haha yea sorry bout the weather mate. ruined the whole weekend for me too.

yea thats good. i think they kicked a lot of the WSW fans out to help stop anything happening. After the first fight it looked good from the outside. Just a heap of fans enjoying the atmosphere.

its a good little pub. One of the first pubs built in Australia

There were still plenty of Wanders supporters in the pub up until we all assembled in the beer garden waiting for the go-ahead from the police to start on the trek to the ground. But we were waiting there for an eternity, so they may have cleared the Wanders supporters out through the main door while we were waiting.

Top little pub. Handy to have across the road from home. They would have done a roaring trade for those few hours.
