Has anybody seen this movie, starring Mel Gibson? At school I'm doing an oral presentation on it because my friend loves the movie.
What are ur opinions on the movie? Reviews?

I've always had signs up the top of my 'Worst Movie Ever' list. The ending comes so suddenly, and is supposed to gripping, but it's nothing more than a b-grade, Year 10 student production. If you are going to make a dodgy sci-fi movie, at least make the aliens look either half real or half scary. Neither of these happen in Signs.

Put it this way choc_a_block, I reckon your oral might even be close to the same standard as the movie. And that's saying something!

It's average.

But my ex loved the "It's contaminated" line. She repeated and repeated and repeated it. :p

Oral presentation because your friend likes the movie? Makes no sense that.
Much like Signs. M. Night Shyamalan is the most overated screenwriter/director currently making films. He is a mainstream rip off of directors such as Kubrick and Lynch, his twists arent new, let alone shocking. Must say though, that Signs wasnt as bad as Unbreakable, a film based around the notion that Bruce Willis is a person in a comic book.

Signs is a movie that goes for 90 minutes, then suddenly this unexplained monster comes up and the guy beats it with a baseball bat. That 5 second presentation would get an A+ from me.

i loved it (and i am clearly in a minority).

partly because it's way different from every other "alien invasion" movie i've seen in that it focuses in on one family and not the entire world (thereby avoiding a lot of crap). there is no "U.S. Army saves the day" mentality either. i don't know why this is so hated...maybe people were expecting a summer blockbuster or a pockcorn movie and were let down in this regard?

i geuss in your presentation just dwell on the fact that most alien invasion movies are popcorn movies with lots of explosions, basically pumping up the us army (thanks to the funding from the pentagon mainly). this one breaks the norm in these regards (I dont think there is one gun fired or explosion in the entire movie). it is based mainly on storyline & character rather than whiz bang special effects, that is rare these days (again particularly in an alien movie).

personally i loved this movie, had a good plot line, the part where on tv there in mexico showing a news broadcast of a sighting with all the children made me jump for a second :o but then again i was in one of those moods i would have jumped pretty quickly if someone tapped me on the shoulder, but it kinda brought you in to believing it was real, bo (the little girl) was a little cutey and i like joaquin phoenix as an actor, went well with mel gibson..

maybe the alien invasion thing was over-done but this movie was more realistic and therefore more believable and easier to relate to.. better then some of the crap we've had to deal with in movies of recent, had a simple enough plot line for the average viewer to follow as well, such as meryl being told to swing away, and the glasses of water being placed around the room by bo's contamination phobia, most may not find the movie appealing but then again how many movies thesedays usually are?

Signs is so not about aliens invading earth. The invasion is just a back drop to the true story unfolding.

A quirky movie, but I enjoyed it because it was something different.

Yes.

Nice symbolism with the alien at the end being killed. Water tipping down onto its prostrate body = baptism = Mel Gibson's character rediscovering his religion following the incident... blah blah blah.

Ridiculous, flawed ending.

I think this website adequatly sums up the film:
http://maddox.xmission.com/signs.html

thats called creative licence. If you are going to bag every movie plot that is flawed then you are going to need a lot of bags.

It was ridiculous but IMO it didnt matter so much because in the end the movie wasnt about defeating the alien invasion.
