PC Sim City 2000

So, I decided to revisit a few games I used to play as a kid

problem is I never actually played the game without cheating so I am finding it very hard to understand how the hell to play it properly (no manual etc)

So I like to start in 1900, I try and do what many hints and tips guides say and build Industrial first , then housing and make sure I have sufficient electricity and water.

But then it all goes to shit from there, the most I can seem to get is about 1000 people before it all goes pear shaped and I waste money trying to keep people with police, hopsitals and schools.

So does anyone remember playing the game properly, and how the hell to get the game moving without going broke?

Can't help you with any of the question but yes it is a great game , they made a new one that came out this year but you have to be online to play it unfortunatly. . .

I prefered Transport Tycoon Deluxe slightly more than SimCity

I was a fan of that too, but I had a copy of sim city and thought, why not!

From memory keeping a budget surplus could be tricky. Don't expand too quickly, and don't give in to all demands for facilities straight away.
I broke out Sim City 4 again a little while back. The new Sim City is apparently far better than it was at release, but reportedly still a broken game in most respects.

I just remember half-assedly building a city and then sending disasters to trash it.

Never understood the desire to play the game properly, to be honest. There's just too much fun to be had with unlimited cash!

i have this game around somewhere. there's that special moment in the game where you've filled up every square of the city. i tend to turn disasters off.
surpluses are very hard to maintain early-mid game, my tactic was to tax the **** out of citizens 2 or 3 months of the year.
this along with civ 2 are some old games i'm looking to revisit soon.
