Dont know where he is at when it comes to fitness etc, but since he has been back, his fitness or lack of it, isnt the reason for concern.
On Saturday, when the ball came out to the space where he was all alone 50ms in the clear, you just knew the result was the result we got. Fumbling, clutching at thin air, brain trying hard to catch up and get to the contest, and watching the ball roll out of bounds.
Minimal infuence in the middle, minimal influence around the ground, minimal influence on the scoreboard, struggles to hold marks that should be eaten for breakfast, struggles to work out best option, just struggles period;)

very much a confidence player. ATM hes lacking match fitness and now confidence.

1st year for us, he was pretty much how you described him, dropping sitters fumbling bumbling and just out of sorts. Last season he looked awesome. Put him out to pasture make sure he sorts that ankle out and is ready to go come day 1 for pre-season, Im sure he'll be back to his best next year.

Hope so Tony...I know when we got him on a 5yr contract, one of my big concerns was whether or not he could still be competitive as a 195cm ruckman at age 30+...he'll be 30 next July.

Big question marks IMO...tinged with hopeful optimism. ;)

theres a bit of that too ;)

His strength as a ruckman is his ability to cover ground and play almost as a ruck rover, in that aspect I'd back him in against any ruckman in the league.. but once that goes he's pretty much useless...just gotta hope he goes strong for another few years and looking at his physical conditioning Im pretty confident he'll hold up ok as long as there are no major injuries..

probably what's most disappointing about our senior players is that they're only in it for the money. Players like Johnson, Bowden, and Simmonds get paid handsomely and give us nothing. By now they're so used to losing, they just turn up to collect their pay cheque. If they weren't getting paid, they probably wouldn't play another game.

I don't blame the kids, they're doing their best. I blame the senior players and their lack of leadership and for our horrible season.

Yeah Tony, one thing I've been musing over is how long it actually takes him to get near 100% fit. In the first year there was a lot of talk that he wasn't playing his best because we'd bulked him up a few kg's. He really doesn't look anywhere near as fit ATM as he did that year or last year...but he's had 6 games back plus training. Maybe it really does take him half a season to get fit? In his first year he improved markedly toward the end of the season...again, was that purely fitness related?

He may well be the sort of player for whom a 2-4 week interruption in a season totally blows his fitness level and then it takes him forever to get it back?

I'm prepared to give Simmo the benefit of the doubt this year. 2 ankle injuries have obviously severly hampered his fitness & form and it was only 12 months ago when fully fit that he was ranked by some as in almost AA form! (for the record, I though this was a bit much)
Because he is not a tall ruckman he needs to be fit to compete in the middle and then can hurt other teams around the ground as well.
I reckon he will be OK for another couple.
