I know who he is, who he played for and where he is now, But does anyone have any like good infomation, like how good he was, his style of play, any memorable moments about him.

I also want to know more in depth details of Warwick Capper. This was all sparked cause I was reading The Encyclopedia of AFL Footballers(2001) and the infomation they give in there is ****, so I thought I'd come on BigFooty and ask.

The first time I saw Simon Minton Connell play was in 1987. He was a highly rated 17 year old skinny full back for North Hobart in their 87 premiership team.

He copped a flogging that day as his opponent kicked 6 on him. At least he had the last laugh as his team won by about 10 goals.

The thing I can still remember most about him that day was not so much anything he did well as a footballer but his haircut! He had the biggest and widest flat top I've ever seen. Looked like an anvil must of landed on him from a great height.

He looked the goods for a while there at Carlton. Some supporters were initially unhappy when he was used in the Williams trade, (unhappiness faded pretty quickly).

Ultimately he is more of a workmanlike footballer. Sparks of brilliance but not enough to push through into the 'exceptional forward' ranks. Real journeyman too. Even in the EDFL he's moved around.

In the EDFL Minton-Connell kicks tons a week, but he has competition with Aaron James. Just found out that Minton-Connell might be our sporting celebrity at our school Sports Awards(mental note: Get autograph).

That's stretching the celebrity category to new levels !

"Hey, I'm related to Peter Hudson you know kids........what do you mean who ?!"

He was a good player who was just never quite good enough to be considered either a real threat up forward or a star of the game.

Hmm I guess for a full forward.....better than John Hutton but not Bill Brownless.

Very talented player, should have been better.

never had enough muscle to compete.

would come out and kick a bag every now and again, but still over rated by many.

This was an era of 'great full forwards' ablett, lockett, dunstall, and the second tier of cummings, modra, longmire etc.

a team didn't seem complete unless you had a 100 goal full forward.

these days he'd make a goodish 35 goal a year half forward flanker, a full forward who kicks more than 50 is worth their weight in gold.

Not good enough for FF.

In 1997 after round 10 I think it was he had 43 goals, if he kept that up all year he would have won the Coleman

He was serviceable for us, kicked 5 in the 98 Qf against the Weagles. Was also a great bloke, me and a few mates used to hail him and threw minties in the air whenever he kicked a goal

He was very good on the lead, but couldn't take an overhead mark to save himself.

I could be wrong, but I think he is the only player in AFL history to kick 8 goals at four different clubs.

I remember the 8 he kicked for the Hawks against Fitzroy in 1995 at Princes Park. The crowd actually booed when the siren went because we were 99 points up and wanted to win by a ton! :p

He had no hope of getting a game with Dunstall in the side and moved on.

I was going to do an overhead mark gag, but it's been done twice already.

Similar player was Jason Heatley, moments of brilliance but not enough strings to the bow.

I can remember him going for a big speccy in the dying stages of the final in 1996 (I think) and buggering it up! My mates who are Hawk fans have hated him ever since! :p

Yeah, he was brought in as a surprise replacement for Hudson (who was dropped and quit the club) but did stuff all, even when Dunstall went off with a knee injury.

Was it him who knocked himself out going for a mark as the final siren went one day? Game is over and the players are walking off - and there's Minty lying in a heap!

He was a FF who kicked many goals. He like to copy his uncle's style. His uncle is Peter Hudson.

Knocked himself out in his debut for the Bullies when we lost to Freo at Optus in 1997. I believe when the siren went in his distress he someohow managed to bang his head a little to hard on the ground

Minty's one of my favourite players ever. He was my first cult hero and in my opinion layed the foundation for Kingsley-mania at the Dogs. The best times I've had at the footy were in 97/98 when we stood behind the goals at Optus and hailed Minty. He is a top man, almost God-like

In the end I think he had a pretty good career. Moved around a lot and never really put it all together for a hell of a long time, but he still kicked a lot of goals

I saw Simon Minton Connell play against Melbourne and Hawthorn in the Ansett Cup Semi Finals in 1998 and 1999 at Waverley. He showed some skills there.

Simon Minton Connell might find himself another club in the EDFL. I heard that his brother in law is coaching Moonee Valley. For those who dont know his brother in law was captain/coach at Doutta Stars and went to captain/coach at Aberfeldie and Minton Connell went from Doutta Stars to Aberfeldie with him, so only will assume he go to Moonee Valley.
