2013?

Oh, yes, I loved 2012. Good year - we almost got in the 8, y'know...

Sorry, 2013?

I'm sorry, what year was that? I don't remember that season ever having existed...

2013, you say? Twenty... THIRteen?

Is that with the 3 AFTER the 1? Nup, just not registering, I'm afraid...

Maybe the AFL should - rather than banning any Essendon players - cancel the 2013 season altogether. It will forthwith be know as Hirdy's gap year.

As I said with Fisher and I stand by those with any player. Injuries are no excuse for onfield performances. You cross that white line and you are saying your 110% fit and can perform to your maximum potential.

That's a ridiculous comment If you cross the white line, you are saying you will give 100% effort. You can never say you will play to 110% of your maximum potential (even if 110% was a possibility, which it isn't).

Players from ALL clubs carry injuries throughout some, or even all of the season. If it is felt by the club and the player, that they can 'manage' this, then that is what is done. Surely you don't think that Roo with his knee, Judd with his shoulders, or other players with injuries, don't have some limitations, due to the injuries they are carrying and therefore not playing, to their maximum potential?

As to injuries being no excuse for performance, I don't think I have read of them being given as an excuse. When you do become aware of injuries to players, that often explains different aspects, of a players on field performance.
  • a player failing to punch and spoil well in aerial contest, going in for shoulder surgery, as they can't easily, or fully raise their arms over their heads
  • a key defender being slow off the mark, to cut off a lead, or to be third man up, who has a serious foot problem, that requires surgery
  • a player that has lost their aerial leap, due to calf, thigh problems, requiring end of season surgery
And so on and so on. Injuries are not excuses, but they most certainly assist in giving explanation, as to the reasons why a player performed, in a certain manner.
