I have forwarded this to the Club, but I also think it deserves a place on this board.
I just wanted to say a massive thank you to Skeeta.
For MCG Home games, my girlfriend and I are seated next to a young father and his very young son – whom we do not know.
Last night, (Round 23 v Richmond), when Skeeta was moving through the crowd and posing for photos with fans of all ages, the young boy was far too shy to approach him, but was obviously very enamoured with him.
Even friendly prompting from his Dad, ourselves and two nearby Richmond fans didn't help to bolster his confidence.
By the time Skeeta had reached a Row that was several ahead of ours, my girlfriend and I were concerned that the little boy had missed his opportunity. However, Skeeta noticed the young fan and went completely out of his way to back-track and sit in the two vacant seats next to the little boy and pose for some photos.
It was very obvious to everyone in the row that this had made the little boy’s night, and personally, this kind gesture was one of the season highlights for myself.
Later, the young fan had the confidence to approach a food-seller by himself, (albeit supervised from the row), and purchase ice-creams for himself and his Dad. I do not think he would have had the confidence to do this previously, had it not been for Skeeta making the effort to reach out to a young fan.
On-field performances aside, it is the little gestures like this, (which may go unnoticed or unrecognised by some), that make me so happy to be an Essendon fan.
