Slag us off then ask for help - GWS (Sydney)

Missed the bit where they're slagging us off?

Great idea by the way, although I'm a bit biased :p

I think our club should be all over this. It would help reinforce our "national brand" credentials. And Giants stadium is a fantastic facility, it can easily accommodate our fans.

The inevitable question would be ... At the expense of which game? The Swans game? The Suns game? (We've been cycling between away games with Suns and Giants' each season). A Melbourne (away) game?

The AFL will like this idea. Collingwood will likely push for it too. I reckon it will get up.

No way AFL will drop our Swans fixture. Unlikely to drop the Suns fixture, so a Perth, Adelaide or Melbourne (Away) game looks the most likely.

Yep happy to oblige* them.

* The trade for Treloar will go nice and smoothly

***** waits for clueless opposition supporters who say we get a great fixture, gifted with Friday night games etc etc blah blah.. **

Everyone wants to play us, still.

Maybe the AFL should just give us 17 away games, that would fix everything up.:drunk::rolleyes:

whats even more annoying is all the clubs and supporters will call up complaining that Collingwood always get big games etc etc. and this is exactly why because the clubs themselves request it

Would likely be the same nobheads who always complained we got too few interstate games at the time when we won nearly every single one of them. Logic: if the AFL was biased in our favour they would have given us MORE interstate games not LESS when we were in the habit of winning nearly all of them.

Warning: I am about to get on my high horse re the Swans game

I had no problems when we played them at Homebush. You were always guaranteed a ticket and it was pretty much a home ground for us.

However, now they have taken it to the SCG, it is very unlikely most Pies fans that want a ticket will be able to get a ticket. Also we are far more unlikely to beat hem at the SCG

Stuff the swans now that they have moved this game. This game should now alternate between Sydney and Melbourne (and I live in Syd).

Rant over!!

I'd much rather watch an exciting GWS team on a Friday night over a deplorable Carlton or Essendon.
But the LOLs, don't forget the LOLs. I don't even need a beer when Ess or Carl are playing these days, the LOLs.

Exactly this - the never ending bitching and moaning about Collingwood's so called "easy draw", not travelling, playing 14 games at the G and getting the high profile time slots/marquee games ... Blah, blah, blah. Fact is, just about every team wants to play home games against the Pies to either boost their gate receipts or raise their profile whilst at the same time whinging about our footy dept spending and equalisation. Happy to get at the front of the queue to milk the Collingwood cash cow and cry foul after, hypocrisy abounds.

The Giants believe a crosstown derby against the Sydney Swans would maximise interest in the game, although League powerhouse Collingwood could also be involved to help boost TV ratings and crowd attendance.

Bu bu bu, Collingwood never travels...

Bu bu bu, Collingwood has an easy draw...

Bu bu bu, Collingwood hasn't played anyone...

Bu bu bu, Collingwood gets all the prime slots...

This is why you dickheads. Tell your clubs to stop requesting 2 games against us, or shut the f**k up.

Drop the WA game :)

Our members will miss out on seats? HUH? The Swans average under 30k per home game at the SCG this year, and that's when they are a top side.

Now that the SCG holds close to 50k it's by far the best place to play AFL. It's an AFL ground for the whole winter, unlike that cesspool, shifting, ugly arse place out at Homebush.

The only disadvantage to Collingwood from moving this one game per year from Homebush to the SCG is the winning rate.

to be fair, shouldn't we play Swans in Melb only for the next however many years to offset all the games we've played up there?

Didn't we average 65,000 at hombush for this annual game. That also takes into account Sydney supporeters that refuse to travel to Homebush.

The swans are a massive bandwagon club and believe me, all those bandwagon swans supporters will want to go to the SCG to see " their side" beat those "toothless unemployed bogans" from Collingwood.

I know a lot of Melbourne pies supporters used to make this their 1 trip to Sydney but it will be very hard to get tickets to the SCG, even if they are Collingwood members.

I agree the SCG is a far better ground to watch and play footy.

The crowds have been very up and down out there, last 4 seasons;

round 2 - 2014 - 32,347
Round 9 - 2013 - 65,306
round 20 - 2012 - 45,827
round 14 - 2011 - 38, 241

Then there's the Prelim in 2012 of course - 57,156

So apart from the prelim and the game in 2013, they fit rather easily into the SCG.

I'd expect this year's game at the SCG to be a sell out, but if you get in early you will get a seat.

I'm biased here though, I hate homebush, I hate going there for the NRL grand final, even if the Storm are in it, it's a waste land, a terrible stadium that should have been demolished after the Olympics.

Can we not create another marquee game where a team will want to play above its usual standards and knock us down? We could do without the added pressure of a blockbuster game every second week during our rebuild.
