For me, the aesthetics of a smile comes down to...

Straight teeth
No visible over/under bite
Gums not massively sticking out upon smiling as though they're larger than the teeth themselves

Just thinking about it, a lot of people would match the above criteria, so how would girls differentiate between these guys? I suggest that it comes down to personality. A person vibrating confidence, positivity and a fun person to be around is more likely to smile in a way that attracts the girl, thus leaving her with the impression that his smile is better than most.

If you flip the table and make it so that I'm judging a girl by her smile, I'd probably follow this reasoning. Think about it - all else being equal, who has the better smile, the absolute queen bee bitch, or the fun-loving girl that's easy to get along with?

Possibly. I shouldn't have said just the mouth. Mouth and eyes would've been a better explanation. Some people will smile with just their mouth and their eyes if it's a genuine smile, whereas others you can tell from pretty much anywhere on their face whether they're smiling or not.

I'm a full face smiler, but forced smiles are nearly always lip-only smilers pulling an all-facer.

It's called the Duchenne smile (to do with physiology of behaviour).
