I've been a big fan of theirs since I was young when my dad was a fan. I was lucky enough to catch them in concert in Australia last year. Some of my favoruite Smokie songs:

Wild Wild Angels

Stumblin In(duet with Suzi Quatro)

Needles and Pins

Living Next Door to Alice

Any other fans?

Geez Noddy you need to meet my eldest sister. She still lives in tis bizarro time warp world where Smokie are still number one, Fonzie still rules the streets and leather tuscadero can sing.

(We haven't told her Suzi Quatro and Leather Tuscadero are the same person.)

I just think the music from the 70s-80s was so much better than most of the crap today but that's a whole other thread which has been done a million times.

Yeah I'm firmly in the "there's still good music being made you just have to find it camp". Having said that if I forget to grab a cd for the car I listen to ABC Classic or Radio National because the music forced into our ears by commercial radio stations and tv is just really ****ing rotten and at an all time low. I don't know if more crap is being made or we just get exposed to more of it because of the infanet.

Back to Smokie though, Living Next Door To Alice would have to be close to the record holder on countdown for longest number 1 wouldn't it? I actually think shaddupa you face has the record but out of real songs LNDTA would be up there.

Do you have any idea what they are all up too now?

IIRC Fernando holds the Countdown record for most weeks at #1.

It was number 1 for fourteen weeks which is all I can find out so far, I did see the charts for November 1977 and The Ferrets were in the top ten with Don't fall in love.

**** I used to love that song.

There's still good music today.

It's just that there's far less harmonising in todays bands as compared to back then. Example being :30 on in Living next to Alice you have 3 guys all competent singers singing together.

Overall the quality of singers voices in the rock/pop industry has thinned out over the years thanks to technology being able to make average singers sound half decent.
