Smokin Joe

Unsure about Joe's future in the side. Midway through the year i would have been certain that he would play another season at the club but i have doubts now. He hasnt been in the best form lately but the something that has barely ever hapened to him before that is happening now, is finding himself on the bench. He has been quite valuable at times this year but has struggled to keep up in a lot of games aswell. To add to this problem is that he is out of contract at the seasons end.
Personally i dont really mind if Joe doesnt play next year because it will give Jobe a better chance but i know that he is also a great mentor for the young guys aswell.
Anyone have any tips about what might happen to him?

Joe would have to be a part of the Essendon best 22. Even next year I cannot see him being dislodged from that group. I think you will find that we are finally putting together a group of midfielders that can rotate through the center and hold their own. As such this gives Misiti the opportunity to have a rest. The problem is that he doesn't have the ability to be rested anywhere else but the bench as he has spent the majority of his career in the center.

Although out of contract I can't see him going anywhere. He will be offered a reasonable rate (Probably less than he is on now) and then Joe has a decision to make. If he accepts than that is great... If he doesn't than off to the trade table we go. Either way Joe will be playing somewhere next year. But I can't see EFC not offering him a contract of some description.

It will all be up to what Joe wants to do. (He'd be pretty ****ed though that Mercs has a guaranteed $500k next year while his salary might be cut back a bit)

Agreed 100% - but I think a few of you never see the work Joe does - he is still on of the best users of the ball in the club - he nealry always chooses the right option. I have no doubt that our form reversal is due to both Misiti and Peverill lifting their form in the 2nd half of the year.

My only complaints about Joe is his tackling - it is pretyt ordianary - but really - when th game is there to be won - I would definitely have him on the ball.
