I cant believe some of the threads and comments that have been posted on here after our disapointing loss to richmond.

People have been giving shit to half our players, just listing more negatives then positives ( I know the negatives out weigh the positives), and it doesn't help anyone.

Im hearing about people leaving before the final siren. I as a Carlton supporter have always watched from start to finish even if we were were getting handed some punishment.

There are some people on here that have to have a look at themselves, i know we are all feeling gutted after the loss but im sure our players are feeling worse.

So for all those "so-called Carlton supports" we need to stick by our team through thick and thin and not jump on them as soon as they put a foot wrong.

Theres no room for all this negative shit, so grow some balls, because i wouldn't classify yous at true Carlton supporters.

I agree.
Our opinions of our players, coaches etc. should not have changed after one game of football.
Nobody and nothing goes from good to bad after one game of football.
It was a dissapointing performance, but don't get carried away.
I know it may seem ridiculous to compare us with Geelong, but last year they got off to a bad start and were about 2 and 3 and look where they finished up.

Maybe, rather than sticking your head in the sand and pretending that it will all be ok, you need to look at the facts.

Yes we are very young, but there are major issues with our club. The fact that we effectively lay down after half time without giving a yelp is pathetic. 2 goals against a very ordinary side is not good enough. The pressure at the ball was not good enough, the tackling was not good enough, the use of the ball was not good enough. Unfortunately, it is the same players making the same mistakes and that is where the frustrations come from.

Yes, they were positives, but until our so called 'senior' players step up and start performing, we will have the same discussions week in week out.

You can choose to stick up for them and say it'll be ok, or you can discuss the issues and how we can try and solve them. Choice is yours, but dont question the loyalty of Carlton fans who are showing some passion just because you dont like the comments they are making, when the majority of the comments that i have read are pretty spot on.

I agree with the OP. Yes the loss was disappointing but it definitely isn't panic stations. In the end we had a far from perferct preparation and I think Richmond would probably consider their preparation pretty good.

Richmond we effectively able to sneak under the Radar while Carlton have been nothing but headlines for the past two weeks.

Additionally, I think Richmond had a lot more to lose yesterday. If they lost yesterday, Terry Wallet would be under all sorts of pressure especially when they had a full team in. I can only think of Coghlan and Cotchin who may come into their team.

Don't despair people. I think we will give a few teams a run for their money this year, particularly when we are able to have a full compliment of ruck men in the team and can stretch teams up forward.

All true but I think a lot of us feel the need to vent the frustration we feel. I am sure the team and coaches alike feel the same way today. The build up over the off season was tremendous. The crap with Libba and Fev put everyone's brains in a spin. I am not blaming these incidents for the loss but it did not help.
I hope we can bounce back soon - Saints are going to be tough.
We need more discipline on and off the field!

the positives I take from last nights game is that for 3 qtrs, our so called YOUNG, INEXPERIENCED Backline held Richmond & was doing a mighty fine Job.
Also, we did not get thumped by 100+ plus.....
and before anyone says Yeah but we were only playing Richmond......(the wooden spooners from last year), seriously look at the experienced line up they had compared to ours & also just think..... it could have easily been Carlton that ended up with the wooden spoon last year instead of them with the way that we played.

Honestly, I am disappointed that we lost but I did really not expect anything different with the recent injuries & the young list that we have..... As I have stated before ONE MAN IS NOT THE ANSWER to our problems.
It will take time for all our young side to gel together.

I am sorry but I feel the club done the right things by giving a press conference whe we signed Juddy etc but the BUILD UP that you have mentioned comes from the fans......
they have been the ones with the so called expectations & the hype..... the club have played it down & stated several times not to expect a great deal.....
so the frustration that fans are feeling is brought on by their expectations.... maybe it is time for the fans to LISTEN to the club & understand that when the club says it is going to take TIME..... it MAY JUST TAKE TIME !!!!!

It doesn't help when our best tackler isn't playing, we got killed in the midfield again because we don't have someone who constantly wants to go and get the ball (AB) and he's our best tackler, and we were woeful last night

Opinions are divided on AB on BigFooty, but I think last night showed why there's a place for Bentick in our side.

If we get Hampson back in, then Setanta can play in the backline and Bower misses out, if we get Fisher back in, it'll either mean a) Edwards unluckily gets dropped, or b) Edwards gets a much weaker opponent due to Fevola and Fisher being opposed the #1 and #2 backmen.

Also, Kreuzer comes in and gives us another option either a) in the ruck for small periods or b) another key forward option where the opposition has to effectively play a ruckman on him because he'll outmark everyone else.

Injuries hit at the wrong time for us.

Expectations are not for a flag but improvement across the board. Seeing the kids become men, competing again and winning again. We want to see skills improve, decision making improve, discipline improve. These were the things lacking making some posters call us spineless today.

Well said Eddie, the start of a long season. Just wait until Judd & Stevens are actually more than 75% fit, before you guys start writing off your team.

You're starting to sound like Richmond supporters - we were happy to have a win for once. :D

Most classy thing I have ever heard from a Richmond supporter. I'm very impressd and you are 100% right...There are 21 rounds to go, form cannot be assessed after 1 game. Not every player is gonna set the world on fire in the first game of the season, we are all disappointed with the result but we don't call for heads after 1 poor outing. Give them time to settle into the season before we start bagging our best and fairest from last year etc!

I have been absolutely furious for years about our recruiting & development of players!!!

Now look at our top draft picks we have got over the years (Kreuzer will be left out, as he hasnt played yet!)

All the players are going to be good players, but no way are they a top 2 draft pick!!

Murphy- Comes close, but would much rather pendelbury or Thomas from that draft!

Kennedy- Although he is gone Pendlebury or Thomas would have been better option!

Gibbs- Joel Selwood is so much better its not funny, Gibbs moves well, but is as soft as butter..

Walker, certainly not worthy of a top ten pick!! wrong decision again!!

Although these players will be good & very servicable, a waste of a top draft picks!

MOST other picks we have had has been very disappointing to say the least.. Giggs, Harlett, Bower, Jackson, Betts, Jamieson etcc are not league footballers..

Look at our arch rivals & as much as it pains me to say this, they are so much better in evry department, especially recruiting & Development!

Clarke (Rookie), Obrien (Rookie), Maxwell (Rookie), Goldsack (pick 68), Lockyer (Rookie), Swan (pick 54), Johnson (pick 72).. Al these players play regular finlas & have made an immediate impact... All are integeral part of the scums team!!

There ealry picks have also been spot on. All said Xavier Ellis was worth pick 2 & they went for thomas..insipired choice.. Then pendelbury was a pick 5 was also a surpirise but what a greta choice!! We get murphy & Kennedy & they are nowhere near to the level of those too!

Didak, Brown & Ried are all top 10 picks and all look the goods!!

Tarrant played up & was traded rightly so.. Fev has also many times & is still here!!!

We have alot of work to do as a club & we can get all the number one draft picks we like but that means NOTHING!!!

thank you...... you have just proven my point in the highlighted part of your post......

I am not the one who has mentioned anything about a Flag but YOU have brought up that issue NOT I.....

yes I can see your point however about decision making & skill level etc... BUT once again..... this is stuff that is going to take time with our younger brigade playing in the BIG TIME & the team as a whole learning to play as a team & learning the skill set of each other..... really what more do you expect from players that played the last few games of the season & have less than 20 games or so under their belt..... the likes of Bower Jammieson Edwards & Co ....then you add the Hadleys (who hasn't had alot of games under his belt due to injuries)..... you have the likes of Judd who is coming back from injury.

One thing to remember guys..... we do have the youngest list in the AFL... all they can do is TRY.... & from what I saw last night they deffinitely did TRY & put in a mighty fine effort

A mighty fine effort? Not sure which game you were watching but if you were happy with that performance then I'd hate to see you after a better performance.

The effort was certainly there in the first half but they weren't too good in the second half.

They lacked intensity and hardness which in the end was the difference between the two sides.

You sure your team isn't collingwood???

Mate, its a lot easier to come into a side as a young player when the team is a finals contender (eg. Selwood).

The fact is that the top picks are drafted into weak sides so it will take them longer to have a big impact. Just look at Hodge and Juddy. Everyone was saying for the first 3 years how much Hawthorn stuffed up but Juddy went into a side that was very good. I'm not trying to take away anything from the great man cos he is a legend but you can now see why at the time it was a tough pick between the two!

Settle Grettle
Just giving you some context - I was not having a go at you so sorry if you thought that. I meant expectations are we are sick of losing, think we have hit rock bottom and want to begin the rise up the ladder. Last night did not show that!

Keep sticking tour head in the sand!!!! Lets hope the powers at be dont have that attitude & settle for this crap!!!

well as from what I saw there was 2 points the difference at 3 quarter time with Richmond in front..... yes we threw away a 20 odd point lead in the third qtr but at 3 quarter time we were still in the game BUT Inevitably, we really lost the game in the last qtr as the game was still up for grabs at 3 qtr time.
yes, I watched the game last night & I agree the skill set still needs to be worked on etc..... But I am also proud of the boys as a young group, I am damn proud that they didn't get whipped by over 100 points like they did under the pagan regime..... & that I will continue to state time & time again. Rome wasn't built in a day

So as long as we dont get beaten by 100 points every week this year, you will be satisfied?
We were playing the wooden spooners from 2007 and got beaten by 5 goals. I certainly wouldnt be damn proud.

I imagine its easy to act mighty and wise concerning draft picks using hindsight. For the most part, our higher picks in recent years have done well for themselves considering the amount of time they've had in the game. It's easy to say 'Thomas is better than Murphy, why didn't we pick him?' after seeing them play for two years - a luxury that recruiters don't have.

Likewise you've given almost no consideration to how long these players have been in the system. Murphy is still developing and IMO will end up becoming a superior player than Thomas given some time. Gibbs has played one raw year in the AFL, so judging him now is grossly premature.

Give it some time people. The club is in far better form than any of us could've hoped for two years back. These things don't happen overnight.
