I think we can disregard the second half on Friday night. Fade outs and lack of composure under pressure were hallmarks of the Wallace era. The first half showed that we can mix it with top four sides (such as the round two clash against the Cats showed).
I'm guessing that Rawlings would fancy his chances of winning more than just the occassional match in the second half of the season, and that his time as the Coburg coach might also allow him to pull a rabbit or two out of the hat when it comes to accelerated player development.
Hopefully he will employ a gameplay suited to our personnel, give players a chance to develop in their best positions and show a bit of consistency in rewarding character (i.e. the will to win), form and effort.
An examination of the list seems to reveal that we have more than the bare bones of a good side - even a final contender - as the following example hopefully shows:
Fullback: Newman/Thursfield/Rance
Half-back: Polo/McGuane/(White/Moore)
Centre: Deliedio/Cousins/Tambling
Half-Forward: Morton/(Richardson)/Riewoldt
Full-forward: Nahas/(Hughes)/(Brown)
Followers: Graham/Tuck/ Foley
Interchange: Jackson/Cotchin/Pattison/(White/Moore)
Emerg: Coughlan/Connors/Raines/Schultz/Edwards/(Polak)
Obviously there are gaps on the forward line (especially if Richo/Polak can't come up), but there seems to be every chance that one of the young talls (Post, Vickery or Putt) will take the next step if Hughes/Schultz can't.
And maybe, just maybe, Rawlings will be able to get something special out of Edwards/Connors/Gilligan or even JON?
