It is going to be interesting to see who the club get rid of now the season is over. At a glance:

Retirements:

M. Woolnough
M. White
A. Lord

Probable Delistings

D. Foster
D. Clarke

Decisions

P. Street or P. Chambers
B. Grgic
J. Hunt
C. Mooney
K. Kingsley
--------------
J. Bartel

Rookies

A. Carrazzo - gone
W. Slade - Better option than Rahilly, D. Johnson but I reckon he will probably get shafted. Competing with Hunt for a spot on the list perhaps?
S. Byrnes - Rookie list, Nominated Rookie, Senior List. Take your pick.
J. Smith - Surplus to requirements really. 5th in line for ruck duties, average around the ground. Better off with Playfair and Blake. Possibly worth another year on the rookie list.

I think Smith should get another year on the rookie list.

Whilst i agree, i wouldn't be surprised if he got the chop.

We only have 4 rookie list spots for next year, thus i think only one of the current crop will be retained, that being Byrnes.

Byrnes may be promoted to the senior list.

We'll just have to wait and see with that one. I hope Bartel decides to stay, but if he wants to go, we should get at least a 2nd round draft pick for him.

I wish.

If they can't be arsed putting him on earlier this season, i can't see them falling over themselves to promote him permanently.

If that happens it will be the worst trade we have ever done. You just can't trade kids that will go on to play 200 games for second rd picks. Name me one other club that is trading players got with top 10 picks 2 years later. I know if he wants to go then that's his right but if he does decide to go we should do what the Lions did last year with Hedland. Just say we will trade him anywhere for the best offer or take your chances in the draft.

The biggest problem we have is if we can't get a decent trade for Bartel and he still wants to go, he'll just nominate for the pre-season draft and we'll end up getting nothing.

Sounds like a similar scenario at Richmond last year.

Sadly, the decision will probably have more to do with money (i.e. who's contracted and who isn't) than ability.

Last year we had to choose between Hyde, Mills, and Haynes.
In the end we delisted Haynes as he he was the only one who wasn't contracted.

Ironic that Essendon Rookie listed him and this week he'll be playing finals but couldn't get a game amongst the talented Richmond lineup!

Rahilly and Johnson both re-signed this year so it doesn't look great for Slade and Hunt.

Both would be good value pick ups for teams that need small/medium defenders or an enforcer in the midfield.

Time for a little comparison, if Slade and Hunt are delisted in favour of Rahilly and Johnson it would be like keeping Clarke and Carrazzo and delisting Kelly and Chapman. At least it feels that way to me :(

Why would we need to delist either Slade or Hunt?? We will have at least 3 spots on the list due to retirements, (Woolnough, White and Lord) while Grgic and Foster should be delisted before we even think about getting rid of Hunt or Slade. Lets face it, if Grgic couldn't get a regular game in the current set up at Geelong, he wont get one when the young guys get better and better. As for Foster, he's ok in the VFL but isn't up to AFL standard.

I can't see us delisting Clarke without getting anything in return, especially since we haven't got enough experienced players as it is.

Street, Bartel, (unfortunately) Mooney and maybe Kingsley will be looked at as possible trades, although I think we should hang onto Kingsley and actually play him as the 3rd key forward.

This is how I think we should operate over the offseason.

Lord, White, Woolnough ( retired )
Foster, Grgic ( delisted )
Clarke, Mooney, Street ( possible trades )
Also 1st or 2nd draft pick ( possible trades )

Targets must be a key forward:

Thompson, Whitnall, Rawlings, Lucas

also 100 game player(s) :

Soloman, Brad Green???, S.Motlop???, Beaumont???

some of these will go cheap, we have plenty of kids right now. This is exactly what Collingwood have done!

What do you think?

Welcome to the board baywatch5, hope you enjoy your time on here. :)

Would love to see Dean Soloman at Geelong, however I can't see us getting him and come to think of it, we probably have enough players who can play in his position.

Brad Green is an interesting one... certainly a good kick for goal and good mark for his size, could be worth looking into for a possible trade.

Not sure about the other two though.

There's plenty more who are tradeable. In fact it's not so much who is tradeable as who isn't.

Non-tradeable;

Ablett
King
Scarlett
Ling

Anyone else could be sold off for the right price. It's more likely people with potential will be sold off than those without. Take Street and Chambers for example, most people here think that unco is better, and probably rightly so, but with King so dominant and Street showing that he is good enough as a stop gap, and with Mark Blake representing the next generation, then Chambers would be good trade bait.

you want s.motlop, you can have him. mind you, there is no one on your list who is all that appealing as a trade, so a 2nd or 3rd round pick would be fair in exchange. he is a premiership player after all, if you get rid of mooney and white you wont have any left

We need our third rd pick for Blake and not even the most one-eyed North fan could seriously suggest trading pick 22 for a HFF who has been in the system for 5 years and is playing VFL. For christ sake last year clubs were picking up Brownlow medalists with high teen picks. I think we'll wait until the last few days of the trading period when the clubs bursting at the salary cap seems start their fire sales. Like fishing we just have to be patient, cunning and ready to land the biggest fish we can.

Pretty much right.

Sydney played it the best with getting Nick Davis for a 2nd round pick

Collingwood get Woewodin cheaply but that was mainly because of Salary cap issues with the Demons

Actually I would much prefer Motlop to play with another team than for him to drop off the face of the afl

I think he has a lot of talent and it would be a shame to see that all wasted
