Does everyone remember back in the day when we used to wear socks with the white hoop around the top?

As opposed to now with the blue hoop around the top

If my memory serves me correctly the change must have occurred in about 90-91.
Does anyone recall why the change took place?
What does everyone reckon looks better?

Totally agree. I hate seeing players with their socks around their ankles

I agree also. Nothing frustrates me more than to see some players wear one sock up and one sock down! Blue hoops at the top look much better

up. if they can't play like footballers they can at least look like footballers!!!

Exactly right! Socks up= professional. Not much of a difference, but blue hoops look just that bit better.

I think the AFL wanted Geelong to display more white on their uniform. Even made them wear white shorts for some home games. Disgraceful!

Damn Mooney! Ruckman usually are the main offenders with this one as they wear a shin guard on one leg which makes me wonder even more why they don't pull the other one up as its basically a target for the other ruckman. Mooney clearly doesn't have one on in those pics though

He must so it makes it even more annoying that he would do this!

I like the white sox. Reminds me of the days when we had one G.Ablett running around... Also, I always pull my sox down when I play football. Who cares about looking good? It's the good footy I like...

As TheTimeCometh said if they can't play like footballers they can at least look like footballers. I've been told this from a very young age playing football but you are right about rather seeing good football. We aren't seeing that for long enough periods atm though

The change to the predominantly blue sock was at the start of 91. I don't believe it was an AFL decision, merely the club trying to lessen the amount of white when we were playing away. The following year saw the club introduce the Ford logo on the rear of the guernsey and then, I think, 94 was when the numbers changed from black to navy blue.

Don't get me started on this - that was that imbecile Wayne Jackson (Mr.Charisma) - I saw him one night on 'Talking Footy' trying to justify it - it was truly shameful.
