When you think of pre-season training, you picture a stifling hot summer’s day, temperatures in the high thirties with players struggling to stay hydrated. That was far from the case at Melbourne Grammar this morning as Carlton continued their first week of pre-season training.
It was a cold, wet and soggy start to the 8am session on Friday morning, the temperature dropped to below 10c, but that did not worry the players during a skills session, that lasted over one hour.
As Denis Pagan and his coaching staff called out instructions, saturated in the middle of the oval, the players took part in several physical drills in the slippery conditions.
Carlton’s Irish rookie Setanta O’hAilpin took part in the session, his first since returning from Ireland where he represented Ireland in the International Rules series against Australia. O’hAilpin also managed to play in a couple of hurling finals whilst in Ireland, he represented Cork County and also his local team Na Piarsaigh.
Carlton’s pre-season training continues on Friday afternoon with a weights session in the Clubs new gym and a running session.
Activities include
Monday Football, swimming and weights
Tuesday Running, boxing, cycling, swimming and spinning
Wednesday Football, running, cycling, swimming and weights
Thursday Weights, boxing, speed work, cycling and stretching
Friday Football, weights and running
