Ok, i need some advice.

I compleated, in November, a commerce/economics degree at Monash University and in April landed a job with a really good Accounting firm beginning in April of next year, which i'm really happy with. So everything was going good and all my choices were made for the next few years at least, with regard to work.

However, i get home from cricket training tonight and find a package from Monash, which, i think, contains an offer to enter their Economics honours program. Don't get me wrong i'm really chuffed that i was offered this as i've got friends who would do almost anything to get into this program but i really don't know whether i can be bothered going through another year of study, and being poor.

So my question to you is, is it worth puting off my job for a year to do further study in another, albeit relativly closely related, field.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

I would say that passing up the chance to work in this good company would be a huge mistake. I would look into it more, and

a) consider doing the honours part time. Your company will probably pay for it and give you half a day per week off (paid) to study.

b) enquire whether you can defer the honours course. They might intimate that you can't, but if they accept you now, they will accept you in the future.

Advatages of taking the job:

1) good company
2) you gain important experience
3) the company will most probaly pay for your honours (whether that be now or in the future) which is much better than paying for it yourself (about 15k I believe - and I don't believe Austudy shell out for honours and Masters if you have already recieved Austudy throughout your bachelor's degree)
4) When you do the honors course (p/t now, p/t later, or f/t later)you will have industry experience and contacts which will make it so much easier

Advantages of doing honours and not taking the job:

1) You have your honours after 1 year and you don't ever have to study again.

Tell the company about the offer.....if they want YOU, they'd want you more with an honours degree. My advice, do honours, but try to keep your job at the end of it!.
