The only common commercial beer I tried in California was Samuel Adams, which I didn't like. But apart from that, all their microbrewed stuff, which we'd call macrobrewed, was GREAT!

Favourite was Sierra Nevade Pale Ale, but great beers in Hefensumfin, Chief Peak (Ojai), and some beer at Marin Brewing Co which was nice. Damn, now I can't remember the names. Oh, Anchor Steam was nice, too!

Biggest surprise : the Fosters thing is a MYTH. It tastes pretty similar to our Fosters, and isn't too bad!

What do American beer and making love in a canoe have in common?

They're both f**king close to water.

True enough for the enormous breweries such as Anheuser-Bush, Miller and Coors. Those mainstream beers suck, and only cowboys and idiots drink them.

There's actually a TV commercial where all these guys notice they can't taste their beer. It causes a big panic. Kind of funny, and sadly true at the same time.

Mobbs is talking about the quality microbreweries. They do indeed make some good beers. I don't care for Sam Adams either. Too sweet. I like more bitter Pilsners and so forth. There's mostly German & Czech beer in my fridge. Sometimes I'll go with a local microbrew.

But yeah, most US commercial beers are 'canoe ****.' ;)

Peace,

I tried a brew known as 'Rolling Rock' and was pleasantly suprised.

On a related note, most of the Americans I've met over here absolutely adore VB.

I don't buy Rolling Rock, but have tried it. It's not too bad.

I can't get VB. I do all my beer shopping at a large import warehouse which located itself deliberately 5 minutes from where I live, and along my route to and from work. Neither VB nor Crown Lager are on their inventory lists of beers they can order.

Someone told me that Fosters are blocking VB imports. I thought that was strange, because Fosters Group owns VB. At the same time though, the Fosters in the US is brewed in Canada. So if there is an anti-VB conspiracy, it's coming from the freakin' K'nooks.

If they had a clue, they would license a VB brew and start marketing that as well. If they had a clue...

Peace,

Canadians and Americans might not appreciated being lumped together, but for this thread they will be. :D

Molson Ice is the only North American beer I've had that is anywhere near decent, and it's quite bloody good at that.

This is why I'm not a really a beer drinker, because everyone where I come from worships Miller and Busch products. Not worth the dishwater they brew it in.

And Budweiser tastes like water from lake Powell [also known as Lake Foul]in Arizona.

I would not lie to the Mooster... don't bother with the VB (or Crown) mate, just DON'T BOTHER! In fact, avoid.

NO, NO, NO!! When I was living in the 'States' we could buy that crap for $1.99 a slab.

Red Hook is a very fine beer from San Francisco.
