I want to get back into playing footy (I miss it too much) for a team that doesn't take itself too seriously, where I can run around in the seniors or reserves and get a few kicks, and where it won't be the end of the world if I miss a training session or two as long as I keep my fitness up.

I live in Glenroy, and work in Port Melbourne, so I would be interested in places close to either of those two areas.

I played about ten years of junior footy and a year or two of seniors, but haven't played for 5 years because of Uni and work commitments.

Being a scrawny midget, I played mostly as a rover. I made a cannons under 16 development squad and won a couple of junior best and fairests, so I am not a complete spud, but I am still a scrawny midget and am not going to set the world on fire.

Preferably, I want a league that plays physical but fair footy, without any of the behind the play crap that goes on in some leagues (I got the shit knocked out of me as a 50kg 17 year old in my third senior match by someone 50 metres off the ball - I'm sure he still thinks he's tough...)

Any suggestions or invitations greatly appreciated.

You have the monash gryphons in D3 in Caulfield. Just going up a division from winning the flag last year. Have Richard Osbourne coaching as well, so I'm sure if you got onto their website via the vafa one you'd be able to find out where they train.

Albert Park (D3) would be your closest team (to work) and I believe they do some preson training in Port Melbourne.

They are a lovely bunch at Therry, and being a Collingwood man all the better. Collingwod Districts would have been another option, however they are no longer with us.

At one stage didn't they have 4 blokes who'd done time for murder/manslaughter on the team?

As a small short 19/20 year old coming to Melbourne to play footy, they had me shit scared. (And that was playing in the old South Eastern Suburban Churches League.

Them & Fairfield both had me bluffed. (Actually it was more than bluffed considering how routinely the fists were used.)

LOL Infineform that brings back memories of my junior playing day playing against Collingwood districts in the old VAJFA and if i remember right they played at the old fitzroy ground in bruncwick st and we were very wary of the snipers.
but then we also played against a lot teams out broady way ( holy child, Corpist christi , Jacana, Hadfield , Mooba Park) man it was tough and they used to think were rough because we play insight of pentrige and the always gave us bit extra to go on with

Matt. As Dr Truth said, Therry Penola are just down the road in Oak Park. I think they also still have a Club 18 side for those that cant train a lot and just want a kick on the weekend. I think they're in D1 or 2.
If you dont mind travelling a little Box Hill North are also a friendly club with a great bunch of blokes and are in D4.
I have no allegiance to any side in the ammos, but know a few guys that play in the comp.

Hirdysback are you serious what sort of post is that if you can be ****ed
mate i would leave trying to attract players you your team to someone with a better understanding of what is going on .
As your post would be a great reason not to go to a club if most of the people Associated with the club talk and think like you

Are there any leagues that play Sundays?

I work in the sales industry and work every Saturday.

I'd love to get into a game that wasn't ultra serious, took place on a Sunday etc. Am I dreaming? I'm 26yo.

Hey I am also in the same position. I am looking for a club for next year. I would love to play but don't think I would be able to due to my ability so would probably just be allowed to train.
I played football in my early teens but stopped. Last year I really wanted to get into it again and started training with a football team. I was in the country and this team's seniors won the flag. I was clearly the worst bloke at training every Tuesday and Thursday night. I am pretty fit, not muscular and a pretty rubbish football player. After hounding the reserves coach for weeks, he finally let me play when they were seriously short of players for one week. I played about 15 minutes and still probably managed to get negative dreamteam points (if that is possible). I came back to Melbourne for the last month of the season and trained with a Clubbies team where again there was daylight between me and the 2nd worst person.

Can you guys thinks of any clubs which could be appropriate?
Would it be better in the VAFA or in the local suburban leagues?
Would it be better in the clubbies or trying in the reserves of a D section team?

As I said I love footy (I try to get to as many games as possible with my AFL team) and am interested to hear your responses.....

I play in a clubbies side at Richmond Central and we have some absolute spuds, I literally didn't think people could be so horrible at a given sport. Yet, they get a game every week and love it just as much as any of us. You'd be more then welcome to play at Richmond Central next year and would get plenty of game time.
