I hope the NBA and Stern have the guts to knock back Bennett's proposal in
moving the Sonics to Oklahoma (a lot to do with the fact that Seattle should always have an NBA team there) but also I'm getting sick to death of all these recent relocations and team owners always holding the cities to ransom, and demand to move their club if the city doesn't build a new stadium.

The only recent relocation that made sense was the Grizzlies moving to Memphis, I still don't think the Hornets should have left Charlotte (but to be fair they have the Bob Cats now) but for crying out loud ..

Seattle hasn't been a very successful franchise lately, but they are a fairly big town and I think it is a shame that this has to happen ..
IMHO the deal is down, and the NBA and other teams will give this move the tick of approval (although I think they shouldn't)

No one wins out of moving the Sonics and the NBA, out of seattle.

At the same time Oklahoma deserve a major sporting team.

Honestly I am sick of these owners too and the Magic owner attempted to pull something like this last year. It's all a business now (and has been for some time).

Yeah

I even heard a ridiculous rumour that 3 or 4 years ago the Spurs owners were thinking of moving the team from San Antonio if the city didn't help fund a new stadium (no I'm not joking)

You are right about Oklahoma needing a sports team, but why not shift the Clippers over there ? (They will always be second to the Lakers in that town)

And what about the Nets ? Are they still moving to Brooklyn ?
I honestly think there is only about a group of 4 or 5 teams (The Celtics, Lakers, Knicks and Bulls) that will never ever relocate, but I wouldn't be sure about any other clubs, the way the owners run them these days.

They will get massive support Oklahoma City while support for the Sonics is dwindling in Seattle plus they have an old stadium there and can move into the very new Ford Center. Plus you could tell from day 1 that the new owners goal was to move the team to OKC.

Also there was a lot more then just the arena drama that made the Hornets move out of Charlotte.

thats terrible if true. obviously no-one seems to care about history if they move the sonics.

No one cares about history in the NBA anymore... similar to the NRL over here, they'll merge and move stadiums at the drop of a hat if it means $$$.

No traditions

Yes because so many NRL teams are merging and moving.

I assume you think the NRL started the year the Storm joined?

Just to name a few changes in the last 10 years:

St George - Illawarra merge

North Sydney - Manly merge

Souths dumped and returned

Gold Coast dumped and returned a few times

Western Reds dumped

Adelaide Rams dumped

Hunter Mariners dumped

Almost all Sydney clubs leaving their traditional grounds to play in an empty 90,000 seat stadium....

My original point was the lack interest by the big wigs in the traditions of the game... just like the NBA

From what I understand, the Seattle City Council voted 8-0 recently to ensure the Sonics don't break their 2010 lease of the Key Arena. Therefore the Sonics can't go till 2010, and the new owner has promised Seattle that he will keep the Sonics in Seattle if a viable stadium option comes up.

Great news for me as I'm moving to Seattle from 2008-2010 and love to see some basketball. Couldn't care less what happens to them after that :D
