sony bluetooth headset help

hi all, wondering if anyone can help. I have a new sony bluetooth ps3 headset, have paired using direct connection via usb. I have gone into audio settings and adjusted input and output to be via wireless headset. problem is i hear nothing at all, have tried with uncharted 3, on the matchup screen i can see the other players volume meters and mine, the speaker thing comes up when i say something, i have done the mic test and all is fine, im assuming others can hear me but i get absolutely no sound from the earpiece, my nat type is 2, so no issues there. this is now the second headset with the first doing exactly the same thing, any help would be much appreciated

They are annoying little things. When you press the round (5c size) button on the side, does it show a muted speaker type thing on screen, then unmuted if you press it again?
The buttons to the side of that are the volume buttons, you should hear a beep every time you press volume up or down.
Pretty sure there was a "wireless headset" thing in "pair a new bluetooth device" section.
The PS3 should search for it.
I had probs with mine but it seems back to normal again.

yep, it does the muted thing and i can hear a beep when turning up the volume, from what i can tell mic seems to be fine, just get no voices from the earpiece, has anyone had theirs working ok with uncharted? ( have tried pairing wirelessly and via usb and get the same problem

Mine works ok with uncharted.
You say others can hear you, do their voices still come through the TV?
Again check that the input & output are both on headset.
I often have mine on TV if others are in the room so it doesn't just seem like I'm laughing or talking to myself.

Under settings I have the following.
Manage Bluetooth Devices
Device Name = Wireless Headset
Type = Audio Device

Accessory Settings
Audio device settings
Microphone Volume - 3
Input device. - Wireless Headset
Output Device. - Wireless Headset
