SORELL Football Club is back from its cold winter of self-imposed exile and gunning to make the finals in the SFL Regional League.
Sorell was put on ice last season when it failed to rustle up enough officials to run the club, despite an abundance of players.
But the club is back, bigger and better than ever, new coach Anthony McConnon said yesterday.
``There's a real buzz around the club,'' he said.
``It's been a big job but everyone is very excited. It's fantastic.
``We have a very good lineup and we're definitely looking to finish in the top five.''
In the opening round of the 2004 SFL Regional League competition this weekend, Sorell's comeback match will be part of a huge celebration for the club.
``Six months ago they didn't think they were going to have a club,'' McConnon said.
``All of a sudden we've got a club and a very good list of players.
``The club has organised a big day with junior clinics before the major game, a president's lunch, and a hangi and a disco afterward -- all the things that should be done to make an extravaganza day for a club starting back up again.
``And if we won our first game it would put the icing on the cake -- but it's only the beginning of where we need to go.''
Sorell's first-up opponent, the Huonville Lions, hope to rain on their parade in the contest at Sorell but the occasion is not lost on the Huon powerhouse.
``Their president, Steven Old, has done a great job getting Sorell up and running again,'' said Lions coach Nathan Longman.
There can be no grand final replay this season with 2003 grand finalist Lauderdale being elevated to the Premier League this season.
Reigning champion Cygnet will start its title defence by taking on Claremont at home.
In other games, Lindisfarne is at home to Dodges Ferry, while Kermandie is at home to Channel.
AFL South chairman Roger Viney also announced yesterday that Woodsdale was unlikely to play in the ODFA because of a lack of numbers.
The news comes on top of Kempton's withdrawal last month.
